Too bad there's no fan voting. This guy needs to get in! His 13th try and there is a max of 15 attempts.

287 wins (27th all time), 3701 K's (5th all time), 60 shutouts (9th all time). He has 2 World Series and one 20 win season.

Last year he got almost 63% of the votes, but needs 75% to get in. He's in competition this year with Andre Dawson and Roberto Alomar among others.

Do you think he will ever go a full game announcing without saying how many more days until his B-Day is? I cant stand that lol, but he should be in the HOF he has all the credentials and some IMO

SHAFT!!

I started the thread because I was almost positive he'd finally get in. Dawson was great too; I can agree with that one. With no standouts this year, I don't understand why the writers didn't vote for Bert.

B.Amish, don't get me wrong, I believe Bert should be in as well but when I see pitchers such as; Jim Bunning, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Ferguson Jenkins or Robin Roberts in with lesser numbers it just doesn't make sense.

Eckersley and Bruce Smith practically invented the save, and before he was a closer, Eck was a very good starter, he belongs.

what gets me about the voting is the way they treat pitchers and hitters differently. hitters can get in because of one or two stat categories or in the case of someone like ozzie smith, their defense. it seems like they scrutinize pitchers stats across the board way more than hitters.

bert should be in because of his k's and complete games - which by the way should get way more spotlight than a save.

Shaver said that 5 or 6 writers didn't turn in a ballot this year. That counts as a no vote, and could have been a deciding factor in his non-election.

I don't have a problem at all with Bert being a self-promoter in his bid. He deserves to be in and he knows it. I would do the same thing if I had his career. I do agree that it may turn other people off, but they should be thinking about his career.

He should be in based on game 7 alone. wink

I agree with both of you. All you need to say is "Game 7" and you immediately think of Morris. Unfortunately he has a career 3.90 ERA which is hurting his votes.
