probably has something to do with spawning in the northern part of the state. there is often some talk about letting the southern half go a little earlier. considering the lack of snow and cold temps, might be a good thing this year.

From the Mn State Statutes:

97C.395 OPEN SEASONS FOR ANGLING.

Subdivision 1.Dates for certain species.(a) The open seasons to take fish by angling are as follows:

(1) for walleye, sauger, northern pike, muskellunge, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass, the Saturday two weeks prior to the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend to the last Sunday in February;

(8) The commissioner shall close the season in areas of the state where fish are spawning and closing the season will protect the resource.

i cant wait for opener already! ice fishing is fun and all, but there is just something about fishing two little holes in the ice that doesnt suit my needs.

i was sitting in my boat today in the garage... dream trolling... didnt get anything but i did miss a hook set on a really nice one wink
