koonie
How do you put Winfield in man to man coverage, in overtime, without any help over the top? TWICE!!!!!!!!!! Somebody should lose their job over that play calling. Oh yeah. Didn't you used to be Jared Allen?
BlueLundFishrman
Someone on the Vikings D coach was hungry for toast!!!
gr8icefishinmind
AGREED......winfield is a great corner, but you need to give help no matter who the corner is!!!
riverrat56
No, disagree, Winfield is not a great corner, he's an outstanding tackler and run stopper. Ever wonder why he makes so many tackles though? Because his guy is ALWAYS open! This guy is way to concerned with making the big hit or stopping the run. That said, I do agree there should have been safety help over the top. For that matter, someone needs to explain to me how we throw the ball 3 times on our first possession in overtime??
croixflats
Probably because the first three running plays to start the game didn't work.

MUSKY18
He had to play man to man because the Vikings ran yet another ineffective blitz that got NO PRESSURE on Cutler. Did we have any sacks last night? Not so impressed with Jasper so far.....they might need to get him out of there. As a whole the defense is sucking right now and if the ship isn't righted quickly, we are done.
Juan Grande
The Vikes are terrible at blitzing, they should take some lessons from Philly. After watching Winfield get abused by Steve Smith last week and that no namer last night, it's obvious they can't put him on an island vs. any WR without safety help. That 50 yard pass play that set up the FG that Gould missed, Winfield was 20 yards off the guy and was still running full sprint away from him. The guys just stopped, caught the ball, and had 15 yards to make a move before Winfield could get to him.

Oh, they're going to be taking some lessons from Philly alright....in another couple weeks or so.

Think you right on that, If memory serves me correct it looked like they went with the whole team on the blitz thinking of a run and it was only Winfield and and Griffen back. Griffen was over on the other side looking for some one to block him. Or was he just chasing his tail in circles.
Nick Kuhn
The Vikes are terrible at blitzing, they should take some lessons from Philly. That 50 yard pass play that set up the FG that Gould missed, Winfield was 20 yards off the guy and was still running full sprint away from him. The guys just stopped, caught the ball, and had 15 yards to make a move before Winfield could get to him. That play is what setup the touchdown. On the 15 yard comeback Winfield had no safety help so he played the go route. On the GWTD pass Winfield was looking for that play which would have got the Bears into FG range. However it was a skinny post and the single high safety (Johnson I believe) had already bailed to Griffins receiver. The play-calling was poor defensively. If you have single high safety you MUST force the issue at the line. Pressure didn't get there and it was an easy pitch catch. On an earlier long TD pass Madieu Williams also made a poor decision that left him out of position. If he plays his position correctly then Cutler is forced to take a sack or the throw comes right to Williams. Instead he jumped up on a TE route. rayguy
What has Mr Allen been doing these past few games? Or does he only have good games against the rookie tackle from GB?
Dave S
What's been happening to Jared Allen lately is what should have happened to J. Peppers last week. He's been double teamed the past few weeks.
zepman
Ray Edwards is the biggest "non-playmaker" I've ever seen. He should be absolutely unloading on Q-backs or at the very least, making them step up or out of the pocket and into K. Williams or Allen.I would sub Robison in for him on sure passing downs...he can and does find the q-back on a regular basis when he gets a chance. JAfish
If he's gonna be doubled all the time then blitz the rookie lb and drop allen into zone coverage much like Steelers defense. If we recall the longest Int-Td in super bowl history was last year. (james harrison). Allen is capable of doing this.
