Northern Hawk Owl/ Bohemian Waxwing.

Hawk Owl images are from recently in the Hedbom Bog by Floodwood, Minnesota. The Bohemian Waxwing is from this past week in Duluth, Minnesota. All images shot with a SonyA300,

Tokina80-400mm, iso400, f10, various shutter speeds, spot metered, manual exposure, manual focus, cropped, adjusted curves, adjusted saturation, USM. Comments and critiques welcome.

Nymph, I completely agree, a slight head turn would have been so sweet on the waxwing image.

Jason, excellent thought, must be something about the berry being frozen or some type of expanding throat abilites!

Okay, so how can you tell the difference between a Bohemian and a Cedar Waxwing?

The white and yellow tips of the wings are found on the Bohemian and one other spot that gives it away is the rufous undertail coverts instead of white. I took that out of my Sibley's so now I will try to translate. If you look at the tail feathers close to the body you will see the how the underside is a light brown and on a Cedar it will be white
