Rattle Reel in Ice Castle

Bought a brand new Ice Castle this off season. Almost ready to put her out on the lake. Where do you guys mount them at? In the middle of the wall? It seemed that there weren't any studs directly over the hole. Any suggestions will help. Thanks!

You can mount them on the ceiling, wall, where ever you like.

I dont have an ice castle but didnt have studs at my holes either so I just mounted a 1x3 across the studs. I also mounted it to a hinge so that I could swing it against the wall when not in use.

I've heard the idea of mounting a 1x3 but the house is brand new and I don't want to have to do that.

I ahve a castle and mine had studs close to my hole you should have something close to make them work. What size house you got?

Mine are mounted on a swing arm over the holes.

They are secured by a small bungie when not in use. They are about mid thigh high when swung out from the wall. I have two others in the front of the house that are a socket and pin type mount that are removeable.

I installed mine much like Glockwingers. I just bought a cheap stud finder and they were all close enough that I could mount the rattle wheels and swingarms so that they are over the holes. They work really well.

I have 1x2s running lengthwise on the ceiling over the holes. I attached hinges and 12 inch 1x2s to that so they can be stowed flat to the ceiling when not in use. Put the rattle reels on the ends of the small 1x2s...it works great.

I like them mounted high on the wall so they never get in the way of the auger.

Another vote for the ceiling. This way you can play the fish by pulling line as high as you need and not get in the way of the reel or accidentally unspool it into a mess.
