Mr. Pike1
My favorite are the diamond jigs, glow demons, and angel eyes. The diamond jigs are ideal as I usually fish crappie in deep water. This jigs get you down to the fish quick. The gold angel eye is my calling jig. Drop down and aggressively jig and you can get a school of crappie to come check it out and I usually find that the larger aggressive ones in the school will pound the angel eye.Glow demons in the smaller size are what I compliment with in my second hole along side the fore mentioned diamond jigs. For bait I have become more and more reliant on the plastics. My favorite is the little atom glow nuggies regular size or mini's. I also like the gulp waxies. I am going to try the gulp alive 1 " minnows this ice season as well. I always have my little bait puck with waxies or spikes and a scoop of small crappie minnows.I usually am someone mobil but have over the years become less and less mobile. As it stands I have some go to places in deep water that generally produce so I am excited to hit some of these haunts and also explore a few more. When crappie fishing I always target the deep holes first and look for them on the electronics. If this does not work I check out the shallows and hope to find structure. I remember one year we could not find them deep. We got lucky and the hole we drilled near shore also just happen to be around fallen tree and stumps. It was game on for 12-14 inch fish in about 8 feet of water...Man that was a blast.I also have a very fond memory of hitting this small pond that happend to be connected to larger body of water. There was no map of the back pond but after drilling a bunch of wholes we found what we believed to be the deepest hole. It was in the center and went about 18 feet, right near by a flat that went up to about 8 feet. Holes were drilled and it was just about dusk. It was almost like a dream. No holes had been drilled so to our knowledge no one had fished this lake which was very remote. I looked at my vex and it was lite up like a christmas tree. So much so that I thought maybe my vex was malfunctioning and wasted some time trying to figure out what was a mis. It turns out it was no malfuntion and the action was non stop. The crappies were all at minimum 9" with most in the 12-14 class and an occassional 15 or 16 mixed in. Now here is the real kicker the bite was so good no live of plastic bait was required. Just drop your jig into the lighted mass below and enjoy. Another thing I found amazing was the speed at which the agressive crappies would zoom to your lure.Sorry I digress...Short answer to the question diamond jigs, glow demon, and angel eye. fishngeek
Last season I used two baits for crappies. I started with a #3 Chubby Darter in a gold/orange back. After that, I went with Northland Bloodworm in either red or watermelon. The Bloodworm has a very nice, strong needle point hook that does not rust. Also the plastic tails quiver nicely. This season I will be giving the Lindy Darter a try and offer feedback later.

Traxxx
1/16th ounce forage minnow spoon or demon jigging spoon is about all I ever use. That size spoon is the perfect size, perfect weight, for a vertical presentation. It allows you to get back down to the fish quicker, without rebaiting, thus keeping the school more active. If the fish get finicky I will break apart a Gulp maggot in half. Then put a piece on two of the trebles and leave the third bare. When dropping the spoon down to the fish, stay above it and make them come get it while jigging. A flasher is a must, when using this technique, in order to see and read the mood of the fish. I always work the highest fish up in the water column first, as they are generally the most aggressive.

Borch
For me if I'm on good crappies I'll start with a 2" power minnow on a 1/16 or 1/32 collarless jighead and downsize if I need to to a ratso.Btw,I have really smacked the slabs on the flutter jigs tipped with a ratso or micro minnow body rigged so the plastic tail hangs horizontally. water_wizard
My new favorite is THE JIG (naked ) My old standby has always been a simple Rocker tipped with either a minnow or a few larvae. I have also had great success with the Marmish Chort and Fiskas balances.
