Deerstalker
i'm heading out with my bow this weekend. a last ditch effort indeed. anyhow, with muzzle loader season going on do, legally, would i need to wear blaze orange?
mabr
Yes.But if its a bow only area im not sure on that one.
Deerstalker
it's open to bow and muzzle loader right now. so a hat and vest should suffice?
BRULEDRIFTER
Regardless if it's legal or not, you'd be foolish to wander around the woods w/o some blaze on. Lots of people still shoot at movements!
Deerstalker
indeed.
Red Miller
If the area is open for deer with firearms or muzzle loader, then blaze is required. Yep, hat and vest at a minimum.

Deerstalker
no worries. i'll be adorned in blaze orange. just wanted to know the actual regs.
SledNeck
I thought you only need an orange hat while not stationary because its outside of the 50% orange dates.
caseymcq
From page 28 of the regs:Deer Season: Also, you may not hunt or trap during any open season where deer may be taken by firearms (including special hunts, early antlerless, youth seasons, and muzzleloader) under applicable laws and ordinances unless the visible portion of your cap and outer clothing above the waist, excluding sleeves and gloves, is blaze orange... Blaze orange includes a camouflage pattern of at least 50 percent blaze orange within each square foot. This restriction does not apply to migratory waterfowl hunters on waters or in a stationary shooting location or to trappers on waters. Times and zones for firearms are shown in the map on next page. Muzzleloader season is open statewide, except for closed areas (see page 90).Muzzleloader seasons goes to the 13th. I think the only hunters that don't have to wear blaze orange during the deer season are waterfowl hunters and those who are exempt for religious reasons.I believe the 50% criteria is referring to the amount of blaze orange per square foot in regards to blaze cammo. zackthehunter
u can never be too safe better to be head to toe blaze than shot by some lunatic that shoots at anything
SledNeck
With as much alcohol thats consumed up here in deer stands I would never go anywhere without blaze orange even if it wasnt required.

Red Miller
I have heard of the area but never been there. Is that area open to muzzleloader?
Wanderer
On rare occasions it is open to firearms. I wasn't aware Cedar Creek was holding an archery season this year.
Red Miller
mmm...interesting. Its a Natural History area run by the U of M and a good chunk of it is in East Bethel. I am surprised its open to any kind of hunting. I cant find anything regarding hunting that area!?!?
Archerysniper
Archery only and you have to be related or good friends with the person that runs the hunt, atleast that is the way it seems. The land is owned by the UofM and one of the neighbors runs the hunt. Last year they sent out a letter for the neighbors to get on the list and they explaned it was going to be a antlerless hunt only and you would have to pay but myself and others watched a few really nice bucks being loaded into the backs of trucks. Archerysniper
There used to be no hunting allowed but people were sneeking in and poaching deer out of thier but they have held a very private archery hunt in it for the last 3 years it's kind funny how it is a hush hush hunt kinda like the hunt that used to be down of 35E and the river in St paul that is now part of a mbrb hunt so everyone that is a member has a chance at drawing for the hunt. Just drive down county Rd 56 or 12 on the weekend and you will see thier trucks parked in the ditches.
