best pike lures

Actually a great question. When i think pike, i would think tip-ups. I have fished a walleye spot, and sometimes i will just have to get on the lake, but it is too early for the eyes. I have jigged with the big pole for pike. Using the largest jigging rap, and a piece of minnow on the bottom hook. It is a somewhat tedious presentation, but it is a ton of fun for a 30+ pike to grab on the other end. I fish them half way down. I would recommend the largest lure you can find, tip it with bait, and look for a spot that has good visibility for the fish to see from a ways away(not tucked tight in the weeds), and hold on to the pole! Good luck!

The jigging raps are good, and though I've never used a chubby darter, I've seen guys use them and have success.

But when jigging for pike, I tend to go to a Mepps Syclops as a jigging spoon...I've had pretty good success with those.

When going for pike, the normal setup is tip-ups with quick strike rigs and working one active jigging pole.

The magnum air-plane jigs by northland work really well. Jig aggressively upward a foot or two, then drop your rodtip down, let the jig fall and settle, repeat. I usually try to stay above the fish while jigging. If that doesn't work, try dropping it below and ripping it up past the fish, that sometimes will trigger a strike.

I like the chubby darters too. They seem to really get slimmers angry. I would imagine any kind of bigger spoon would get them hot too. The buckshot rattle jigs I use for lakers always seem to take a hit.

Pike aren't usually a target for me but I always seem to get a few fishing for other stuff. In fact, my biggest ice slimmer to date was on a small demon tipped with a wax worm fishing for crappies.
