Red Miller
I have a question regarding bag limits for deer and I'm hoping you guys can help. I filled my firearm tag with a doe in lottery area 247 up north. I also have an unfilled archery tag. Question is what can I shoot and where:Being I filled my rifle tag in a lottery area, does that mean I cannot fill my archery tag in any other lottery area throughout the state? (bag limit in lottery area is one combined) Am I only allowed to bow hunt in managed and intensive areas?any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank all
james_walleye
Did or do you have management tag?
Red Miller
I used an antlerless (lottery) permit on the doe. I dont have bonus permit but I can sure go buy one. I still have an unfilled archery license.
james_walleye
Looks like you have to buy a management tag and hunt a 2 deer area and you can only shoot a doe. Someone correct me if im wrong?
Red Miller
I should maybe clarify. I am talking about strictly bow hunting at this point. The unfilled archery license is either sex, statewide so I dont think I need a bonus permit. I am thinking that I cannot shoot any deer in a lottery area. Also I have not shot a buck...yet.. fishingfool
I believe James Walleye is right. Even though you have an unfilled archery tag, you already used your main tag (you are only allowed to tag one total deer between your archery, firearms, muzzleloader tags) with the doe you tagged. Your main archery license is now basically just a tag thats allows you to hunt with a bow (cant actually tag a deer with it). Your options as I understand it:1. party hunt with someone who still has an open archery tag2. purchase a bonus permit and hunt in either a management or intensive harvest area. Red Miller
(you are only allowed to tag one total deer between your archery, firearms, muzzleloader tags) As I understand it, this rule only applies to lottery areas. And its "one buck only" for all licenses.
fishingfool
I went back and reread the regs (I should be more up to speed- but since I only archery hunt - it seems my previous perception is a little dated). How I understand it now is as long as you arent hunting in a lottery area (since you already took a deer in a lottery area), you would be able to fill your archery tag and could it be either a buck or doe. eyeguy 54
call the dnr and see if they can answer the question. then you will know for sure, maybe.
TDH
You can still use your archery tag in a managed or intensive area for a buck or doe. You do not need a bonus tag, but you might want one just in case you were to shoot a doe and wanted to keep hunting for a buck.
Red Miller
That was my interpretation as well. One thing thats a little unclear is being I filled a tag in lottery area 247. Does that mean that I cannot tag (or hunt alone)in any other lottery area in the state? Thats not quite spelled out although its kind of implied. fishingfool
my interpretation would be that you can only party hunt within a lottery area, but if it were me I would follow windowpane's advise and call the DNR to be sure.good luck! ANYFISH2
You can not tag another deer in a lottery area statewide. You can only a tag a deer in a managed or intensive area, either sex still, with you regular archery tag. 100% sure on this.

96trigger
I believe they have it covered, you can still use your regualr archery tag in any area the is Managed/Intensive, you are however, done in all lotto areas.
mrklean
i have seen this question pop a lot this year with the loto areas, but they covered it good, done with loto areas but can hunt any other area either sex
Red Miller
Its not real clear in the regs. You really have to read between the lines. We bow hunt a WMA near my house after rifle closes but that area went lottery this year. My buddy still has a tag we can party hunt on so its not the end of the world but I just cant go over there and hunt alone. I really like hunting alone....no baggage if you know what I mean. Thanks guys
