goblueM
wow thats a nice buck there was a fresh little fork horn buck dead on 94 under the mounds exit a month or so ago. If I hadn't been driving a DNR truck at the time i totally woulda stopped and taken the backstraps i've also seen some real nice bucks where Warner RD splits off 61, and by Pig's Eye. Lotta trophies around the metro that never see a hunter! Old age or a car crash is how they go
DonBo
Saw a big 10 point walking right down the sidewalk in Oakdale a couple weeks ago. Maybe just a mile south of Fleet Farm.
bobbymalone
shame he had to go that way Isn't that the only way they can go in Maplewood? There are no wolves and no hunters for the majority of the metro - only cars.
analyzer
Donbo, that boy lives in the Oakdale nature center. I've been walking the dogs back there for a couple months. a very big 8, 150 class, and a big 10 have been around. Got to follow the 8 around for an hour, getting within 10 yds of him multiple times. He was on a hot doe and wouldn't leave her, and she just kept circling in the same area 1/2 the size of a football field. It was funny, because there were 2 other bucks hanging around just in case the big boy couldn't get the job done. They were just little basket 6's that wouldn't get any closer than 40 yds to the big boy, but it was fun nevertheless.
DonBo
I met a guy out there a couple weeks ago who had some great pics of the big 8 point. We've seen lots of deer in there but never any big bucks. I live right next to the park in the Raintree Townhomes.
mpester
I was driving to get the kid at daycare a week or so ago by the nature center. A kid coming towards me slammed on his breaks and I kept going. I was wondering why the kid stopped and then the big 10 point buck crossed the road right behind me. I guess I need to pay better attention everyday when I get the kid from daycare! It is a nice sized buck.
so haaad
guy at work hit and killed a big ten point buck there last night. have pic . if any one can post it for me Did this happen near the car dealerships in north Maplewood? I had a near miss with a dandy buck near the Lexus dealership one morning in October. I was in route to go bowhunting and barely missed him. analyzer
I saw some big scrapes, and he was rubbing on a tree or two 6 inches in diameter, so I knew there was a nice one around somewhere. I kept going for extended walks, and one day, on the north side of the park, 3 deer came crashing out of the Buck thorn. The first 2 were does, and the 3rd hung back for a few minutes. As there was a pause, I figured it was a buck, being careful. But eventually out strolled that big 8. Boy he's just beautiful. I tried to get a picture with my cell phone camera, but you know how that goes. And with the dogs, I couldn't get too close without him walking off. But he never ran, and left it totally up to the doe when they would leave. AS long as she was content to hold still, he wasn't going anywhere. But if she hopped off, he'd follow shortly. We just walked around in the same circle about 4 times, and kept getting close but there was always brush in between us, so I couldn't get a clean picture. Eventually I walked right down the middle of the circle through the brush, and actually kicked up 7 dear... including the other 2 bucks I was talking about. I saw a nice 6/8 pointer a couple days ago, but I think he's just 2 1/2 or so. Will look good in a couple years. Again the dogs spooked him before I could get a good look. I looked for sheds out there last year but didn't find any, I might try again, now that I know what the prize is. I'm sure there are plenty who walk through looking for them though. I haven't seen the big 10, but my son has seen him standing on Hadley, right by that single house in the marsh. And my daughters boyfriend said he was down there on the corner of Hadley and 50th a couple weeks ago. I wonder wear they go in this weather? If they'd behave themselves I'd let him sit in my living room by the fireplace....
