Eskimo quick flip 3

Looking at the size of this house, how does Eskimo quick flip 3 compare to the Fish trap yukon and the fabril guardian? I own the fish trap scout and guide and am thinking about selling my guide and getting a larger 3 man house. I like the price much better of the eskimo, but have never seen one in person.

strictly my .02 but the FRABIL is an excellent house. Worth the extra $$ for the overall product.

Again .. my opinion.

Neighbor_guy and I checked houses over extensively at the ice fishing show last year... along with gander... and the FRABIL was the clear winner.

I also like the ESKIMO. I really do. But I would choose the FRABIL over it.

#1 - Frabil

#2 - Eskimo

#3 - Fish Trap

The frabil had better quality materials, More options, and a stronger base/sled.

I loved the new Eskimo's for the red exterior and gray interior. Frabil has a nice two tone black and gray. But since I wasnt gonna be on the ice making a fashion statement.. the choice was pretty easy.

GOD I CANT WAIT FOR THE ICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have an older QFIII and love it. Nice to be able to stand up and streach even if your 6' or better. Downside is dragging through snow unles you have a sled, quad or can drive out. They also don't fit in most SUV's barley fits in my 1/2 ton short box.

Eskimo is a good basic house but there are others I would take over it. One of my fishing buddies has one. If the one you are looking at has the bench seat you will want to remove it or modify asap. The cushion creeps down in between the supports and you wind up sitting on a couple strips of angle. Most uncomfortable seat there is!

Esox: I like the plywood idea and will give that a try this weekend - simple fix. You reference two things that are of interest to me:

1. Rod Storage (under the bench): Is that in the sled portion or do you have something attached to the underside of the bench to hold your rods?

2. Poles (back rest): Do you have the support poles for the house attached to the back rest?

Thanks!

SP 180

I'm on my 5th year with my QF III and have never had a problen other than having to replace a couple windows after a -30 experience on Winnie a couple years ago.

Durable as can be and I can handle loading it into the back of my truck by myself.

Money well spent!

I'm still using the quickflip 3 I got in 2004-05 and I am happy with it. I've also broken all my windows and have had small holes to mend in the canvas but that shack has been through some adventures. I use a different shack if there's foot travel involved as the eskimo sled I have lacks runners and is very difficult to pull. I do really like the bench seat. To me it is very comfortable still and I've even used it as a bed quite a few times. The space is great. It IS nice to stand up and not hit your head and when fishing any sort of deeper water the extra bit of floor/ice space helps to spread out holes and keep lines a bit further apart. There are definately better shacks out there but if you're looking for a decent one that won't break the bank (like I did) I think you'll be happy with it.

I strap my rods under the bench on the frame. I use the seat straps and added Velcro to support them and use a small bungie wrapped around the seat to keep them in place.

I slide my brace poles under the straps in the backrest, you have to unhook 1 to do this. Still trying trying to figure out an easier way to store the longer front braces, those 2 can be a pain.

I just got a New QFIII in the spring and had it out for the first time saturday. one of the best things that I did was put the piece of steel brace that was for shipping use, I attached that to the middle of the sled, so now I can tie stuff to it and it secures everything in the sled well. it also helps support the sled from side to side flexing.

I like the frabil but unless a guy buys the high end frabil, the QFIII is the same quality as the comparable frabil model. thats what I found anyway.

I just wish that the instructions explained where the longer sided pole goes. of the 4 poles that go across the ceiling and along the ice, one has longer sides and not sure where it goes. I put it so it lays along the ice and I think that works fine, but I might have to put it along the ceiling. we'll see.

anyway, love the QFIII so far.

I love my QF 3! I got mine in the 04-05 year and have never had an issue with it! Like most portables, it's easy to flip over, you can stand up in it. I added something like Reflectix to the inside, and strung up some lights for night fishing...it's a great model.

Not sure why they switched to red this year...

I have a quick flip 2, no issues with the bench seat cover on mine. Install the top two support poles and that's it. Then it flips back and over. I would avoid using the zipper, just flip it instead. I'd love a qick flip 3 but yes as you get larger it gets harder to load, pull, etc.

My only complaints really with the QF III is that when it is really cold it is hard to keep warm and the material is loose and whips in the wind. This year I added reflectex but have not fished on a cold enough day to go past low on my heater, either that or it is working. I pull mine behind my sled or wheeler at 40+ mph with no problems and have been doing so for years. The sled does not seem as durable as an otter but I have not had any problems. I also do not use the support poles as it has not helped with the wind and it does not need the poles to stay set up in place. I looked at new houses this year but did not see anything that I just had to have.

I love my QF3. Some people complain about the bench seat but it doesn't really bother me at all. My back gets just as out of whack on the other seats I've sat on in other portables. What I like about the QF3 is you have enough room to stand up without hitting your head, and walk around ab it inside to stretch out. That alone alleviates any back pains or uncomforts. Plus it's nice to be able to lay down for a quick nap here and there if the fishing is slow.

The one I am getting has the 2 individual seats. I will need to upgrade them at some point they are just regular plastic seats that fold down. I'll get some this summer for it. I have a frabill tow bar for it also. Wonder if bench wouldv'e been better? Never had one. This will work for me!! More room!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
