Amsoil users

Got a booklet in the mail yesterday from Amsoil and was wondering if switching makes a difference of any kind and how often most of change oil since you have switched. Some boast 25000 mile changes. I'm all for once a year changes but I only put 10-12K a year on max. I love the oil in my 2 strokes just wanting experiences from you truck owners. It will be going in an 01 5.3 GMC with 93K on it. Maybe the wifes 05 4.3 Trailblazer to if it saves you what they state and works as well as they claim.

I know someone that runs synthetics in their farm equipment and plow trucks. He does an oil analysis every year and has around 25000 miles on his dodge diesel and the analysis comes back perfect everytime. Make sure you go with a highend synthetic filter and you can easilly get away with 15000 mile oil changes. I change out my amsoil every 6000 miles in the truck and its still cheaper than dino oil. In my opinion its a win win situation.

You maybe gain .5 mpg more with it but figure in the savings of oil and easier starts and more protection its a no brainer.

IMHO it isn't any better or worse than any other full synthetic motor oil. There are benefits to using a full synthetic oil, however are you willing to change your oil every 25,000 miles only to find out that it wasn't such a good idea after all? Oil and filters are cheap insurance. It doesn't cost that much to follow the manufacturers recommended oil change intervals or even more often if you feel better about it. Me, I'm not willing to take the risk. Lots of self proclaimed oil experts out there. Just ask yourself what's in it for them?

I converted the staff vehicles at our fire dept to full amsoil. would spin a new filter on and pull sample at that time every 12 k or 6 months. change the oil every 12 months or 24 k. never had a bad sample and to this day which is over 10 yrs there are several of the vehicles still on the road. we also converted the pd cars to full amsoil but due to high idle and severe use we brought them in to service at 7500-8000 miles, 3500 mile was brought in for safety check. i am a full believer in synthetic.

I wont get into a debate on what brand of oil is better, but I am a beleiver in synthetic oil and good filters.

All of my cars but one get it and they generally go for 6,000 miles between changes.

This past weekend was oil change time and I did all the cars. The durango (which has a huge trailer loaded with construction stuff attached 95% of the time) and the oil was just starting to get dirty at 6k. It was dark but not black. The v6 camry was looked a little better yet (it gets all highway miles) just hinting at being brown. My talon, gets changed at 3k because of the big turbo and the abuse it get, but even then it was still looking pretty good.

Overall it really seems to make a difference. The filter you use does have a lot to do with it too. Good oil and a poor filter doesnt help that much.

When I worked at the parts store we did cutouts of all the filters and I was suprised to see how much of a difference there really is. Fram was horrible, it had cardboard ends inside the filter and less than half the pleats as the others. ACdelco was almost as bad with fiberglass ends and about the same amount of pleats as fram. The purolator (who makes motorcraft among others) and wix were the best, with good solid metal ends and double the pleats as fram. The hastings (who makes amsoil filters) was pretty much on par with the wix and purolator.

All in all if you use good stuff you can usually get by with going a bit longer. I am still reluctant to go 25k on any oil but even if you double the 3k oil change your saving money with the synthetic.

I've been using Mobile 1 for a few years now. I change both vehicles once a year. I just did the changes last month and my car had right at 9000 miles and the truck was just under 4000 miles. I do use the best filter I can find. I use synthetics in everything now.

If you've already had a synthetic blend going in, you probably would be ok switching to a full synthetic in my opinion. I have synthetic in the tranny (Amsoil ATF) and plan on changing it around the 50K mark mainly because I do a fair amount of towing/hauling.

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 5.3 with 78,000 on it. I have been using conventional oil since I bought it new. Can I change to a synthetic or a blend?? The engine is in good shape, I have never pulled or hauled anything heavy with the truck, I changed the oil every 3k with conventional. Im sure this question has been asked many times on here.

Can I Use Synthetic? I get this question all the time.

This answer has a 'catch-word' in it! You can use AMSOIL (or any synthetic) in any sound engine, that is, if it is not leaking or burning an excessive amount of oil. (And it won't hurt anything then, it is just expensive to 'oil the highway' with it, and to keep it up to level.)

However, if you have an old, tired engine that has gum, varnish and sludge holding together tired and worn out seals, synthetic will clean that out and it may reveal a problem you didn't know about. Specifically AMSOIL will NOT damage a seal but it may reveal an existing problem. I cannot speak about other brands - there are some very cheap ones available now that I doubt that are 'fully formulated' and may not address seal compatability as AMSOIL does.

Specific answer to 'morefishplease' - you should have no problem to change to synthetic. I would recommend use an engine flush or cleaner.

Why use synthetics? Performance! In Minnesota winters the over 30 deg lower pour point of AMSOIL makes for much easier starting of all engines (Even other synthetics don't go as low!) More slippery - less wear, better fuel economy (though nearly impossible to measure in cold winters due to high idle times), longer oil change intervals (AMSOIL up to 15,000 miles / 1 year severe duty - most other brands NO), reduced emissions (AMSOIL seals the rings tighter).

I get a kick outta the jiffylube or whathave you that try n push synthetic on unknowing customers who have a million and 1 miles on their rig and make it sound like their troubles and engine will in turn come out like new, like ya said with prolonged use it cleans old parts and in turn can lead to a bigger prob. Great info amsoil guy very informative !!
