Decoy Wary Ducks

Recommended Posts

I threw out a Dozen Deke's at the cabin Saturday afternoon for the evening flight. Two Drake Woodie's (at separate times) landed 50 yards away from the spread. Then 6 Canadas came in and landed almost exactly where the Woodies did.

My only answer for this is that they're locals that have been banged around already and are just wary of anything that resembles a Decoy.

Anyone else have the same thing happen?

yep check the regs, illegal to hunt after 4 PM until today.

But I would guess that the birds were flying to where they want to go, next time try setting the dekes near where they were landing

"My Son and I hit one of my all-time best producing spots early this Saturday morning. It's just south of Winnie (Hwy 2).

I was disappointed to have flushed only two that were together sitting on a tree branch. We walked about 3 miles total through some usually stellar cover. We went back to the cabin birdless."

Under Poaching:

I see you don't suffer hypocricy. Can you tolerate human nature and accept that even though we commit our own sins, we're still moral people and we want to help reduce the number of chronic violators who pollute our World without any moral conviction themselves?

If you witnessed an offense committed on a child, would you be marginalizing to the same degree as you're doing here an offense that should be reported? I really doubt it. Wrong is wrong.

Chef,

This time of year can be tough because they probably are local birds that have been shot at a few times. Try throwing out 5 or so decoys and maybe hook a couple of them to a jerk string. Make sure you are very well hidden. Don't call at all and if you do only use a whistle. Also make sure you are in an area where you have seen the birds sitting.
