Shoot2Kill
Hello all - I've fished my entire life, caught dozens of 40 and 50 lbs King Salmon in AK during the 5 years I lived there....moved to MN almost 4 years ago and have wanted to fish for Muskies since I got here. I met up with a buddy that is a muskie freak and finally made it happen on Friday night and had legendary night on the water. Had a fish on within 20 minutes of stepping off the dock that spit the hook and had my first sighting right below the boat of a true giant about an hour later. We had 9 encounters in about 7 hours! The buddy I was with knew what he was doing, had the right gear, and showed me one of the best nights I've ever had on the water. 11:20 - landed my first Musky after a follow up cast when it swiped at my buddies top water but missed and turned and nailed the cowgirl! And the moon and stars aligned not 30 minutes later when this PIG hit! 51 Inches! Unbeliveable - 2 hogs in 30 minutes. This fish put on one heck of a show and revived the crazy obsessed fisherman inside me that has been supressed since moving from AK! There was no cooler feeling than to watch those monsters swim back into the lake when it was all said and done....truly amazing fish! I have been obsessed with these fish since that night, probably more so than I was with the Kings in AK.....I'm pulling the salmon river rods back down and stringing them up for Muskies! bronzeback
Just wait until the season closes and you won't be asking if it's a sickness, you'll be begging for a cure. There was a weekend this winter/spring when it got so bad that I almost drove down to Kentucky to get my fix. Good luck, and enjoy it while you can.

b1gf1sh1
Quote: Is this a sickness? nope it's normal. it would be a sickness if you went and spent a few hundred bucks every spring and felt somehow that wasn't enough so you spend twice that the rest of the year. it would be a sickness if you thought it was a good idea to chop the ice away from the launch so you could get back out on that water for a few more hours. it would be a sickness if you got a p.o. box to hide the secret maniacal purchases from ''youknowwho''. wait... did you say you caught one? oops, then yeah you got the virus. sorry man. it's over for you. it progresses to the above symptoms and then the really bad stuff starts happening. Hahaha....super. I'm already screwed it looks like. For the past 2 days I have done nothing but look at Spankys HSOforum and Thornbros plotting how in the heck I'm going to get all that I need to do this on my own! I've got the rods (well, they will work for now!), but the rest of what I need isn't going to come with the $200 I thought I get started on. That reminds me....that's a topic for another post....what would you get for $200.
bronzeback
I'd start with a net and some 100#+ leaders. I don't know how your rod setups are, but you could probably buy a Shimano Compre and an Abu 6000/7000 for under 2 bills if you had to. And buy a phantom softtail.
