pflueger president spinning reel pros and cons

I don't have any pflueger spinning reels but have heard good things about them, and I've used a small pflueger spinning reel ice fishing and really liked it. I have a pflueger president casting reel and have been happy with that.

I don't have the president but I bought the supreme last year and it is the best reel I have owned, I have a few Stradics, a Quantum energy, and some others and this one is the lightest and smoothest IMO... I will be buying more of them in the future. I have spun some of the presidents and they seem very nice as well and you'll be more than happy, but if the budget allows, consider the supreme...

They're the only spinning reels I buy. For the money, you can't go wrong. Even the cheaper ones (trion I think?) are very nice. You won't be dissapointed in them. I've had a president for about 5 years, and it still looks and functions as brand new.

No complaints with any of my Pfluegers. I have about a dozen - 4 fly reels, 3 presidents, and a pile of the micro trions for icefishing. I'd put the Presidents up against the Stradics I have also...

I own five of these reels. Never had a problem. My friends who borrow my gear have always commented on how much they like the reel....so no complaints...well worth the money.

I bought a 6740 for my son (13) to use in MN on our trip. He did not have any issues with it except that I put vanish 8 lb line on it and it would unravel or knot up if he did not keep some tension on the line when reeling in. While most of us know how to do it properly, being 13 he knows everything and that he did not need to do anything like that. He felt like a loose line was the best until he birds nested and ended up cutting a bunch out of the spool. Make sure you get the extra spool with it, and if you call pfluger and ask for another, they will send you one at no charge. Good luck

I prefer the reel handls on the president XT & Supreme reels over the rose wood handle of the old president.

Love the light weight of the Supreme spinning reels (Magnesium)!

Anyone having anyu problems with line twists on your Supreme reels? It might be something I am doing, still haven't pinned it down yet.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
