A Ride Down the Tomahawk Trail

13 posts in this topic

Tough time to get much for images right now. No reason to sit inside and stew about it, right? Took a ride down the Tomahawk, listened to the Twins game and got a few shots:

Biggest game I saw - a star nose shrew:

White winged crossbill:

An artsy interpretation of a crossbill:

My buddy Dougie D. used to call this "Black Water":

And a ruffie that made it through the winter - at least so far:

That mole looks like a creature from outer space. I didn't know MN had such a species. I love your Crossbill. That's another bird I've never seen.

Nice shots Ken, the mole looks like he is about to freeze the tentacles right off his nose. I bet he is a first on the forum!

The cross bill is a killer shot too and I really like the composition of the grouse shot. Good job!

That is the strangest little dude I've ever seen! Yikes. Good pictures though. I like the grouse as well. And layers.

Ken I like the Layers shot. It looks like a layered cake made by mother nature. That Grouse better not sit out like for too long with all the raptors moving north.

I like the grouse especially, good job. That shrew has a face only a Mama could love. Good thing they don't have access to a mirror.

Thanks all. The grouse gives me another perspective on a type of shot. Thought I was too far away to get a significant shot, but really liked it after I saw it.

Never seen that kink of shrew before, thanks for putting it up. You called it 'game'. People call things they hunt and eat game, hum? Is a shrew burger any good? That grouse did turn out nice.

    • My buddy Dan and I have been going to the same farm for 3 years now and the turkey hunting is almost unfair. We've never been skunked and the only time we haven't tagged out is the first year.    This year the bowhunting was tough. We were trying to be fancy and get things on film and it hurt us tremendously. So, naturally, we gave up on filming and went back to having fun.    We shot 4 turkeys, a tom and a jake each, all by fanning (reaping). The action was intense and super fun. Additionally, after having a set busted by a wandering daytime coyote, I lip squeaked her into to 20 yards and finished her off with the same treatment, a load of #6 to the face. My jake and the coyote are on cell phone video so I will see about sharing those.   My tom, came on the last day. He ran more than 200 yds just to confront that turkey fan. Due to a depression in the landscape, I had no idea where he would come up. He emerged at 10 FEET! and in a split second I shot him at 8FEET!! Thankfully I had the bead on his head or I would've likely missed. Nothing beats turkey hunting with your best buddy.    And I'm having a taxidermist friend of mine do a euro mount on the coyote skull. Unfortunately the hide was shedding terribly and was matted with mud.
    • Merriam hybrid killed in Nebraska 5/4/17.
    • Bonus points!  Well done Andy.
    • Now I figured out how to add pictures. Time to submit for a score.
    • I think they got greedy and it backfired. Lots of ads everywhere, requiring subscriptions for some forums. They split the boards up into two different websites (fishing MN and HSO), the boards went down for a while, and most the traffic got fed up it all and just moved on. I used to check this place daily, now maaaaybe once a week.
    • That would be my guess as well... If you run it "as is" you are going to wreck the motor due to the lean condition.
    • Man, this place used to be hopping with all kinds of posts and some great info being shared.  What happened?  This place is almost as dead as Aaron Hernandez.
    • How about the ones sold at fleet farm.  Full jacket military stuff probably not optimum for defense..so the normal stuff.
