I don't consider white bass a rough fish. I would call it a game fish anyone else feel that way?

I agree that a white bass is not a rough fish the white bass is in the bass family. But if we are getting technical the below "Bass" are in the sunfish family. Where ever it is posted a 18" white bass is a nice one nice fish hotpockets.

The black basses, such as the largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), smallmouth bass (M. dolomieu), spotted bass (M. punctulatus), and Guadalupe bass (M. treculii), belonging to the sunfish family, Centrarchidae

Well said fishdale. If anyone hasn't fished for white bass I would reccommend it. They hit hard and give you an awesome fight for the size 18" is a very nice one my biggest is 16.5". Oh they also don't taste to bad if cooked correctly.

White bass are also great through the ice. When you see that fish coming, the first thing you think of is "Hey I have a HUGE CRAPPIE on".

I have had a blast with em!

Yes they are next time you ice fish for them they love jigging raps!

The only reason I would classify a White Bass a rough fish is because that is what the MN DNR says wink

I don't have a problem calling any fish a "game" fish because no matter the fish it's always fun for me.

No doubt... a White Bass is a "true" Bass. A largemouth is actually a sunfish. Funny when you think about it but whities are one heck of a sportfish! Nothing "rough" about them in my mind.

after that, bowfisherman showed up, and they were shooting everything in sight, so i started trying to catch all the bowfin i could, so they wouldnt get speared, i put them in a big rubbermaid container full of water, so they wouldnt get shot.

ended up with a total of 5 more bowfin, and they got 2 before i could get to them. the bowfin were released after the bowfisherman left

the look like the would be a wicked fish to fight with if they got up to 5lbs lol

it was a cooker out here today. everything was extremely active, but i couldnt get myself to stalk the creek. i did manage one nice female bowfin, we also got another wave of carp, the second wave of the spawn is on!

P.59 of the 2009 MN fishing regulations: Rough fish are defined as carp, buffalo, sucker, redhorse, sheepshead, bowfin, burbot (eelpout), cisco (tullibee), gar, mooneye, and bullhead.
