Clackin Raps

The issues with them is the size and weight, and they cost $10. I know that Cabela's and Fleet Farm have 25% off all of their Rapalas right now, so I guess now would be the time to buy. Rapala will come out with size 5 and 7 shortly, but will it have the same sound that the clackin rap is touting. It might have a niche on deep weed edge bass and might work on some bonus Muskies in a certain east metro lake. I guess we will have to see.

On rapala's HSOforum they kind of talk about it like a countdown lure: "Let it sink to the desired depth and then retreive."

I think it's gonna sink like a rock.

Funny, I looked at the page and it listed the running depth as "Topwater". 7/8 ounce is pretty heavy for something in that length. I would think it'd be like those 5" swim shads. You can get them to run shallow but only with a fast retrieve that starts the instant the bait hits the water. Otherwise I'd say it'd run about 10 feet down for a more typical retrieve.

On the plus side, they'll cast a mile in any wind.

I think that's why they made the so heavy, was for the casting distance. Allowing you to cover more water I guess. It seems really heavy, but it might sink slower than it looks, depending on the air to wieght ratio in the lure. Rapala ussually does plenty of field testing before they release a new lure, so hopefully this one is no different.
