Humper or super humper?

On one hand I can see the rubber on the super being great on a sub-surface figure 8 yet I talked to someone who used a super last year and said on top during the retrieve his tail didn't do much. Just a fluke? So which one? Can't afford both. Thanks.

I'm sure they are a good bait, tried one the super humper many times and had no follows and no strikes last season. I just don't know what conditions they work best in. Tried early AM and late PM with zero luck. Put on my old standby topwaters and refished the same spots with success so I'm not sure the "when" is for that bait. I am a friend of a legendary guide and he had super humpers I couldn't even find at a store, at 50 years of musky chasing he caught zero on them last summer. Every lure has a time and a place, I need to figure out the time. At the price they go for, I reinvested the toppers that have a track record in my boat. I will still try to figure out there niche.

I've had good action on the regular humper. I never used the super yet. These baits are built like a tank. Black and Orange have had the most action.

Never used one until last year. Up at Operation Muskie, fishing with Chad Cain, he threw one the ENTIRE day. Never took it off his line. Managed to catch a couple of fish on it that day (few pike and a nice 41" muskie) and had a huge blowup right after dark. Stopped at Reeds on the way home and bought me one of them (Mini humper, what Chad was throwing as well) and had good action on it for the rest of the season. Didn't boat any fish on mine, but had quite a bit of blowups and tons of follows. Just a great bait. Will be picking up another one for this season!

I have both thrown about the same hours on each but i almost always lean towards the humper. Take it for what its worth.

We tried the super with no success yet, and I might agree, the action of the tail is minimal. Maybe too short? Don't think it hurt's it though.

I like the super humper personally and had great success on it last year.

a little bending and tuning should fix the tail problem, that tail is one of the better features IMO

trophy eyes could you elaborate a bit on great success, I think many have differing views of great success. To me a muskie strike is success as well as boating a fish, follows and agressive follows to me aren't success after 13 years of chasing them, however they are enjoyable to see and helps you establish milk runs and patterns.

I would love to elaborate. I was fishing with a friend, who happens to guide on a local lake and fishes many of the muskie tournaments in the state. He had bought the lure a few weeks prior and had already landed 5 fish on it. I went out with him on a Saturday morning at 4:45am. I had my first strike at 5am on it. It was 44". The fish engolfed the Super Humper, the only part that was exposed was the very front. Unfortunately, it ate it so agressively that the hook got caught in the gills (ripped the gills out) and subsiquentally killed the fish. We threw all sorts of lures and this lure was the only one that produced. I just bought that exact lure and also the mini super humper. I am a believer.

I was going very slow when it was pitch black out, so I was getting a very distinct popping sound. It seemed to help the fish locate it. I then sped it up during the day.
