You Guys Hear That????????

Of course you can't. It is the wonderful SILENCE of Packer fans on here. Keep sitting on your thumbs, GB. You won't be missed come play-off time, again. You'd think after missing the play-offs their name would be mentioned amongst moves.

They already have Marquee wideouts and a QB.

Are you saying that a good quarterback and good recievers make a team? I would say that the Packers' D and offensive line could use some work. Probably a better #2 running back to give Grant some rest would help also.

I take it you missed the Packers game here. Rodgers is just AWESOME wink

I really can't believe you made that statement after your club went out and got some dude named Sage while the other guy on the bench has been less than average in his career, let alone struggles to keep his starting job on a week to week basis. Then to use one game as an example to make a point?

Wow.

fishyguy is correct....they do need some help on defense as that's the primary reason why they lost most of their games and anyone not drinking the violet kool-aid can clearly see that. Rodgers and the WR's put up very respectable numbers only to have the defense turn into Spanish bullfighters and let the opposing team run down the field at will. They've addressed the defensive coaching position which is a start, but still have work to do.

I don't exactly think many teams felt Sage was a high value target and your club probably could have picked him up any day which is hardly SOMETHING. Let's see....Sage or do nothing? About equal it appears.

Sage it better than Gus and that's why we made the deal. Get over it people. It's not like it was supposed to be a blockbuster deal for an all pro quarterback. It's an upgrade to the quarterback depth on the team. Why is this such a big deal to so many people. Look at it for what it is.

Is it an upgrade as in dumping off your '83 Ford Escort for a '87 with less miles? At the end of the day it's still a Ford Escort. Vikes need to find a car lot with a good Ford Taurus that has some warranty left and some tread on the tires instead of circling the back of the dealer lot looking at the push-pull-and-drag deals smile

It isn't just about that. Resigning players, bringing in players and offering contracts and last season trading off their first round pick. They are doing something. And will win the North again next season.

Sage Rosenfels? No wonder Vikings can't win

Is that the best they could do?

That was my first reaction last week to the news that the Minnesota Vikings traded for quarterback Sage Rosenfels.

Pardon me while I attempt to stifle a chuckle. Nothing personal against the 31-year-old Rosenfels, but if the Vikings think this is the guy who will carry them to an elusive Super Bowl championship, they have been drinking too much purple Kool-Aid.

Rosenfels produced an underwhelming six touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in 2008 when he filled in for the injured Matt Schaub in Houston. Rosenfels has just 12 career starts in seven NFL seasons, and his 79.5 quarterback rating last year can politely be described as modest.

In recent years, the Vikings have thrown money and draft picks around liberally in a desperate attempt to win their first title since joining the NFL in 1961.

The Vikings boast one of the best defensive lines in football and have arguably the finest running back in the game. But when addressing the most important position on the team – quarterback -- they have come up woefully short.

Rosenfels will grapple with Tarvaris Jackson (76.5 career rating) for the starting job in what promises to be a less-than-epic battle.

Packers fans have been spoiled at the quarterback position for so long they would have trouble relating to the Vikings’ woes. In Green Bay, you might have to go back to the days of Scott Hunter and Jim Del Gaizo in the 1970s to find a pair of potential starting quarterbacks worse than the Vikings’ current duo.

The best quarterback in the Packers’ division resided in Green Bay for 16 years with Brett Favre at the controls, and that dominance looks to continue for perhaps the next decade with Aaron Rodgers (91.8 career QB rating) in charge.

Meanwhile, Minnesota, Chicago and Detroit continue to trot out lousy quarterbacks in the NFC North.

The Vikings proved last season that a team doesn’t need a good signal caller to win a division title, but all bets are off after that, as their one-and-done playoff performance showed.

There are rare exceptions. Trent Dilfer (76.6 rating) was the starter on Baltimore’s Super Bowl winner in 2000, but the Ravens’ dominant defense offset their sub-par quarterback.

Only one other starting quarterback in the past two decades – Eli Manning in 2007 -- won a Super Bowl with a 70-something season rating. In the majority of cases, the Super Bowl winning quarterback posted a season rating in the 90s or above.

The lesson here is that it’s almost essential to have a solid quarterback to win a championship.

The Vikings broke the bank last year to acquire Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jared Allen, who provided a significant defensive boost. But following that bold move by acquiring a journeyman like Rosenfels makes no sense.

No wonder the Vikings are suffering from a championship drought that has lasted nearly half a century.

Super Bowl XXXVII(2003) Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Super Bowl XXXV(2001) Champoins Baltimore Ravens

You definitely don't need a good quarterback to win a Super Bowl winkgrin

Didn't Jeff Hostetler win one as well? He was to the Giants what Sage has been, a lifetime back up, journeyman QB

An upgrade is an upgrade no matter how you spin it. Nobody said he's the second coming of Tom Brady. If he performs better than Gus or TJack the Vikings will be in the playoffs again. If not, we're out a fourth round pick. Seems like a reasonable chance to take.

bassphish

By your logic- Tell that to Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins. You give one example and say enough said. Nice try. Come again when you have a better argument.

LOL HOPE BEING SOLD....only 1 team wins the superbowl per year...there's no guarentees...every team starts out with only hope to win....the only way my hope would be ruined is if t-awesome was the starter this year.

career qb rating don't mean much when your stuck on piehole teams trying to gunsling your way to victory...i want to see what his viking qb rating is....can anyone show me what his qb rating is when playing for the vikes?

defense wins championships...when you can't stop a highschool team from scoring it don't matter what kind of qb you have.

The other sound you hear is that of desperation by those in purple. Especially the lead dog who knows his days are numbered. We need D linemen, not too many that fit our needs available. You guys need a QB. We got a better chance landing D linemen.
