Steve Foss
Ken and I spent the day at the dogsled races between Ely and Tower yesterday and had some fun. Sure was a pretty, sunny day. A bit cold in the morning, but it IS the boreal forest. I shot wider, while Ken shot mostly tighter. Not sure if Ken featured dogs as the focal point in any of his work. Mine was focused on the people rather than the dogs this time. Wide angle shot with the 30D and 10-22 at 10mm. The rest with the 1DMk2 and 100 macro. Isos at 200, apertures around f8 to f11, shutter speeds from 1/1000 to 1/3000 or so, all handheld, Ai servo focus mode, various focus points selected. In some cases I used fill flash, with the 430EX on high-speed synch and flash exposure compensation at +1 to +2.

MN Shutterbug
That sure does look like fun. It's just too bad that it can't be done in 50 degree weather.
polarsusd81
Awesome stuff Steve. I tried that 10-22 out at West Photo the other day and man how I would love to own one of those lenses. I like #7 the best.
Dbl
Looks like a great way to spend the day, both photographing and mushing!
Steve Foss
Thanks, folks. Here's another one, this one of the first musher across the finish line. With the 30D and Canon 10-22 at 10mm, iso100, 1/250 at f8, handheld, fill flash with 430EX. And one more of dogs dragging a wiped out sled, musher just barely visible. She was fine, got up and kept going.
