dude-- may I ask why you didnt go with a bird up front? I saw you put a Lowrance up front.

I have the 997 at the helm as well, but also have a 987 up front and have them linked.. so, when I see something way cool on my SI I can hit waypoint and hop up on the t-moter and the waypoint will be on my front unit. its really slick!

once you figgure out that SI, it will blow your mind!

My guess is that he had the Lowrance already.

I have one of those Garmin 160's on my lil red Lund. I wish I could afford a 797C2. I would love to have SI on the boat, but the freakin graph would be more than I spent on the boat, motor, and trailer, even at the new lower cost. The Garmin I have works alright, but it needs to be retired in place of something that works better with GPS. Maybe my walleye fishing uncle could use it, the one that buys minnows one at a time.

Deitz, Setterguy hit it on the head. It was a hard decision I was going to run a 700 series bird on the bow, but decided I wanted to run Lakemaster. It would have been nice to have two bird Interlinked but this will have to do for now. (i'll just have to learn to press buttons faster)

The HB Rep I talked to said, "maybe at the end of 09' for lakemaster". My next boat will sure have two birds and one lowrance, depending on lakemaster and bird. smile Deitz, maybe you can show me some tricks with the bird? I'm excited now is all this ice would just turn into water!!!!!

I can only give my opinion on this.. I have a lakemaster chip for my handheld, and then 2 navi chips for the birds... In the hand held, you are correct, you cant zoom in as far with the navi chip.. However, in the birds, I can zoom till my my boat is bigger than my screen with the navi chip.. it says overzoom in the upper right hand corner of my screen, but it still shows me depth contours.. I'm not trying to push navi or lakemaster,,, I really dont care.. and not trying to push birds either... I just think its a misconception.

I have owned both Lowrance and Birds now.. and yes in a lowrance, you can zoom in closer with a lakemaster chip.. But then again, lowrance owns lakemaster. All I know, is I can zoom in TOOOOOOO FARRRR in my bird/navi..

Well I still have a lot of catching up to do! (learning how to use electronics-coming from Garmins that didn't show arches ever!) Was on pool 4 over the weekend, the Navionics 09 chip did not show wing dams, while the 08 Lakemaster did. Now whats up with that???? So far I'm happy with both!
