Lovin' my Eskimo Quickfish 6!

I needed something bigger for me and my 3 brothers to fish out of that was portable, cheap, and fit us comfortably. Went with the QF-6, best $300 I ever spent.

I'm sure it is an adventure to setup in high winds, but otherwise it was a breeze to setup, took only a few minutes. At only 40lbs, fits in my back seat, and I can carry it like a backpack - its a great option. Fit four of us with room to spare for gear or another person or two. I like that they have the removable windows, will help save them from cracking on cold days trying to fold the shack up.

Gets a healthy amount of condensation if using a heater. I have a place indoors that I can open it up and air it out, so not a problem for me.

I'm actually half temped to pickup a clearance QF-2 or 3. It can alway stay in the trunk of my car along with some other basic necessities. That way I'll always be ready if I get a quick itch to drop a line before or after work for a couple hours.

Don't get me wrong, I still love my Otter Lodge & FT Pro. They are still my primary shacks. But this design definitely fit the bill for occasions where I need something bigger, yet reasonably portable.

Great idea!

How do you guys think one of these would hold up as a tent to use for camping? I am considering one for deer camp...

Am I crazy or would these work? It seems to be stronger material then your average tent and cheaper then buying a wall tent or even a top of the line regular tent.

I figured I could get a a big canvas tarp for a floor and run a Big Buddy for heat.

You could give it a shot ... it isn't what you wanted, it works great for ice fishing.

One thought is that if you have flying insect issues, the only screened ventalation is the small fresh air vents. Windows can be removed (velcoed), and has two doors, but not if it has built in screens for air flow that keeps insects out. But you could rig something yourself to solve this problem. If you have to use it in the rain, I am not sure how water proof it is. At a minimum you would need to seal the seams.

I have QF 3 too. IMO, not a good option for summer camping if that's what you had in mind. Agree with comment above, very little ventilation and it would be a sweatbox in the summer. Plus, no floor so you'd have to put your bags up off the ground on cots or something or you'd get them wet in rain or just by morning dew. It may make a good latrine though smile

I guess I was mostly planning on using it as a "wall tent" for deer hunting.

I know I should just go buy a wall tent, however, I like the possibility for multiple uses from one of these.

I figured if I did do it, I would get a canvas tarp for a floor and sleep on cots.

I was really curious as to how waterproof they were. I figured since they were built for ice fishing which usually equals snow, it would be fairly water resistant.... but apparently not!

Thanks for the input, ya'll!

Should work great for deer hunting. As mentioned before u might have to seal the seams in case of rain. The hub system with poles is internal which allows u to hang your gear to dry out. What a great portable shelter.

I have a the 3 and love the portability. Up in a couple minutes and fishing in about 10 after securing the ice anchors. Fits my Jeep Wrangler. I am looking to buy a 6 before next season to use as a base camp when all the kids show up. I had it out yesterday in the rain and just thru a tarp over. Heats with a Buddy when not too cold otherwise a Big Buddy work good. Cast A Way

just got a quickfish 3 this year. Its quick and very nice, but you have to be a little gentle with it during set-up. Mine already has some wear and tear showing and this is the end of it's first year. I like the double canvas feature as well. It makes it possible to make it into a nice spear shack as well. It's way cheaper than any sled portable and I think is a way better option. The only down side is set up alone in a stiff wind alone. Make sure you anchor first! Once anchored in it holds just fine. I really like this product so far!!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
