I think alot of dudes up by Red River grab them down by the tail. I've heard it calms them and they dont go ape as much, and they would know about handling big brutes up there....sorry . I do not know anything about calming them down, like when the turn over a shark, but I would say you get a better hold of the fish and less chance of it falling down on the ground verses the stomach hold.
