Lisa Almquist
I had a fun time at the Bash again this year! I got to meet some new people this year which is always the highlight of any of these Fishing MN events. I got to eat the BEST (and biggest) Cheddar venison bratwurst too. I ended up catching 3 lakers on Friday (26 3/4", 28" and a 22") and one on Saturday (18"). I almost lost the 1st laker right at the hole but did the one arm plunge after her! I use a Jason Mitchell Mackinaw and an Abu Garcia combo and really hadn't set my drag right. I was convinced that the bigger laker would just simply NOT come off the bottom-that was way too cool! What an adrenaline rush! This was my best day EVER laker fishing even though we started out way below zero and in each picture I look grumpy because my hand was literally freezing to the fish. No complaints though since I'd do it all over again in an instant! What a great day! We woke up this morning with about 30mph winds and light snow so we just packed things up and headed home. Barb, I'm glad you didn't head out there either-brrrr! Your pics in the BWCA forum definitely show how blizzard-like it was up in Ely. I have issues with my Otter Cabin not staying put when it's that windy. These pics are also in the BWCA/Duluth/Ely/Range forum also.
Iambjm
Lisa, I woke up this morning feeling like someone stomped me into the ground, must have been the margarita cause it couldn't have been the apple pie Took a nap when I got home, and now I am running a temp of 101. Hope I don't have something contagious, nose is still running but I am not coughing at all. Musta been too much fresh air, although it was a little chilly on Friday it was a beautiful day. I guess I need to put in some time before the laker Gods smile on me.

Iambjm
Ouch Barb!! Hope you're joking! Ooops hit submit before I was done. I am trying to retain my sense of humor, the nose is running like a faucet and I am still running a temp. I think it is a raging sinus infection. No cough or congestion in the lungs, no icky stomach just this horrible pain in the cheek bones and above the eyes. Visiting the doc tomorrow. Iambjm
Here's what I usually do when I get one of these: hot packs on the sinuses, lots of chicken noodle soup, lots of green tea with either lemon or lime in it, lots of rest (make the hubby wait on me for a change ) usually some type of sinus meds and wait. It often goes away on it's own after about 5 days.
upnorth
OK this is kinda gross but it does clear out your sinuses. Take 1 quart of water, 3 teaspoons of salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda and mix it up. Find one of those little bulb things that they use to suck the snot out of babies nose and use it to squirt the solution up into your sinuses until full and it runs down the into your throat. I have some full time nasal congestion and that is what the Ear Nose and Throat specialist has me doing. It is gross and disgusting but it sure does work. Finns
"search" neti pot. It works!

Sorry but that would clean out all my cavities, I think I will stick with the chicken soup. Tonight I ate some chili the hubby made while I was at Burntside, opened the sinuses and blew my eardrums out. Or maybe it was the mexican cheese I put on it (didn't know it had jalapeno peppers in it).
Iambjm
"search" neti pot. It works! searched: nope not going to do it!!!! looks like they are sticking a gravy boat up their nose
Neighbor_guy
Barb, try a teaspoon of cream style hoarseradish sauce for that nose, or mabe some wasaaabiii . Seriously though, the "saline wash" up the nose works really well to clear up a sinus infection on the cheap (uninsured ), it is a lot like gargaling with salt water to clear up a canker or mouth sore. I would have never believed it either, but an ENT Doc recomended it a few years ago when I said I did not want to use Anti-biotics to clear an infection and would just wait it out. Hope you feel better.
bucketmouth64
Saw a show on Oprah about alternative ways to healing and the neti pot was one of them. Showed some stubborn women not wanting to try it, but they did and it cleared their sinus problems. Now they do it when they have a sinus problem. Also, try taking echinacea in the supplement aisle. Best to take this right in the middle of your illness. This boosts your immune system and recovery is quicker. I've also found that vitamin c and zinc help if you have an infection. I do all of this before seeing a doctor. Haven't seen my doctor in years for sinus/flu like illness. It was great to meet you barb and lisa at the bash. My son and I had a fun time even though I lost my fish. Lisa I think you have the touch catching the lakers. You'll have to reveal your secrets via a seminar at next years bash. Lisa Almquist
It was a great time wasn't it bucketmouth! Nice meeting you and your son! No need for seminars though-most of it was just luck-right hole at the right time!
Iambjm
Happy to say I am not going to be shoving any gravy boats in my nose. Lots of hot packs, soup, tea, along with the hubby's chili and some Sudafed Sinus and the faucet is off. Had an appointment with the doc today for other junk and he decided to skip the antibiotics for now. Still have a slight sore throat, but I really think that is from all the dry air. I really should invest in a humidifier. Must be feeling better as I am sitting here planning my next fishing jaunt.
