Blind Advice

Alright I am going to try turkey hunting with a bow this year and figured a blind would be necessary. After searching some different websites I was wondering what blind would be a good one to buy and if anyone had some insights on what to steer clear of

it all depends on how much you want to spend and if you are going to use if for deer hunting or be bringing someone out with you. if you want to spend the extra money and get a really nice blind. then go and buy the double bull dark horse. i personaly think they are the best. i have 2 of them, a dark horse and a matrix 360. other wise you can get the primos ground max for a little bit cheaper. go to cabela's or any other sporting good store and check out the different blinds and see what you like.

Double Bull is definetly the best out there but as Stretch said, they are expensive.

That said, I bought two cheaper ones several years ago and they don't ever see the woods anymore since I've bought my DB. How good a value is that?

Double Bull like the last two post said are the best out there.I have a couple and love them.Primos did buy them out and ground max. They made changes to the groundmax added the predetor camo to the Ground max they are a lot better now if you want to stay on the low end spending wise. But I want to add don't restrict yourself to a blind while hunting with a bow.I use my bow every year archer only in NE and bow hunt MN for the last 7 years.I have only shot a hand full of birds from a blind. They are great trust but just don't tie yourself down. You can still run gun with a bow.I have shot many birds without a blind with a bow.Good luck this year.

If you will be useing the blind for deer you just need to be sure the material doesn't shine. Lots of the blinds on the market are made from a nylon material and they shine in the sun. Deer will not put up with it.

Double Bull are made from a cotton material and hide you much better. I also own a Cabela's Full Draw blind that has a 3D leafy cover on it that works really good. It is also less than half the cost of the comparable DB.

Anyway you go, it is great fun being on the same level as the game you're after.

Good luck and enjoy!

(WD, nice photo, nice bird!)

DonBo I was looking for the Full draw on the cabelas HSOforum and I seemingly cannot find it. is it made by cabelas or is it an older model? You guys are all being very helpful

It is made by Cabela's. There is the standard model and the 3D one for like $20 extra. For the money, the 3D is a great blind. It is on the small side compared to the DB Darkhorse or 360, but I have shot several deer/turkeys with my bow from it with no problem.

I also think the 3D is better camo than even the DB. I have shot deer from it the same day as setting it up without brushing it in.

Stick,

This was a shotgun kill, (would you like some bowhunting pictures?). BUT I'm not the manufacturer. Look closer and note the shooting portholes are a large vertical oval with shock-corded fabric covers on the inside. Blind height is 7'6" for a standing shooter.

If you'd like to know more about the creator go ahead and google Leroy Braungardt.

I've hunted from a double bull and in my opinion the "turkey silo" is a superior blind for archery hunting.

I can't find the Full Draw on the HSOforum either. Hope they still make it. I'll check my catalogue at home during lunchtime and let you know.

Can you believe with all the catalogues these guys send out that I can't find one at home? Sorry.

Anyone else help him out and find the Full Draw blind in a Cabela's catalogue?

I have an Ameristep doghouse blind and I've used it a couple times.

There are lots of blinds out there and the reason everyone recommends the DB is because of its design. The hub design is super easy to set up. They are very modular so you can open and close and adjust windows to your needs. I think its easier to carry in than my doghouse and easier to move around. I like the height and the lack of zippers and velcro. I plan on getting one.

Try a few out. Sit in them. open and close windows and try setting it up. Carry it around in its stored position. You'll learn which ones are better.

I own several blinds and getting to play with them at work also helps. but the best one i own and have found are the double bulls, but for the price for bow hunters i would recommend looking into the Gound Max Vision. nice large windows and the bag that comes with it has a nice backpack system. I would say that, thats db's only down fall is the carrying system.

Hunt out of the silo and went with the double bull. But everyone has there opion.Caring system I made a backpack straps my double bull cases. Also when in NE we have used light weight pull golf cart.Get you and all the gear and camera around no problems. But again blinds are great for weather but make sure you don't just think you have to sit in the blind or always move to kill a turkey or deer out of it.You can take turkeys without a blind.

I've got the same blind as Powerstroke. It's ok but really only big enough for one adult and their gear.

One blind that I've been impressed with is the Boondocker from Scheels. It's a direct competitor (hub style) to the DB, good size and much much cheaper.

Keep in mind that turkey hunting is only as expensive as you want to make it. A guy really doesn't need the top dollar equipment to hunt turkeys and be successful.

Much like anything else, shop around, try them out (zippers, velcro, windows) and see which you like best. Don't get me wrong, the DB is a great blind, but the equipment choices are endless.

I looked for a while to find something that I can shoot my longbow out of and got the primos vision, have been fairly happy with it, tall enough to use the longbow in and plenty of viewing options, The netting stuff they have on it is ok, half the price of the darkhorse, Material is the same as ameristep, not the fabric type of the db but it is in predator camo. I would say for the most part I am happy, watch out for the hub style on the vision, it ate up 2 gloves and left some pretty good gashes on my hands since the hubs are more exposed than I have been used to on other hub style blinds.
