Rain Gear

SStracker

Question

Im looking at buying some bibs and a jacket for the up coming season. I found a nice set by Browning on Bass pro for about 200$. Just curious what you guys recommend or have. I would like to keep my budget around two or three hundred dollars.

Thanks

Gamehide Typhoon series. No complains, and the seat is actually rubber, not just reinforced. I have had reinforced seats on bibs, and if you sit on a wet boat cushion, your butt is as good as soaked. Never has happened with the Gamehide.

I wear a hunting rain outfit I purchased at D*ck's Sport*ng Goods last fall. I went for the hunting kinds because the material is very comfortable and doesn't make a lot of noise when reeling. The outfit is also a bit tighter fitting than most of the rain outfits i've had. I always have an annoying problem of getting the butt of my rod caught on my jacket....this is also why I went with pants instead of bibs....just less to get in the way of what I'm out there to do....FISH. I also carry a set of Frog Togz in the boat, they are very inexpensive and work great for rain gear to keep stowed away. I recommend trying them all on and find what suits you best. 2-300 bucks will set you up with something that should last a while. Good luck. I'm starting to think about the open water season as well.....She'll be here soon enough!

i bought a ten dollar rain suit at gander mountain. it has pockets and everything! keeps me completely dry, has ventalation, and i can even wear warm clothes underneath!

no need in spending hundreds of dollars when you can get something that does the same job for 10-20 bucks

Get a good gortex suit. No matter what some may say the cheap stuff wont last you and you wont be happy in a big rain. The cheap stuff is made for walking the dog or going to get mail not fishing. Unless you leave as soon as it starts fishing.

Gortex will breath the cheap stuff will have you wet from sweat.

If you can afford it, I would highly recommend getting something with Gore-Tex. I have yet to see any other suit that will keep a person as dry. They cost a bit more, but there are many brands and if you shop around a bit for sales and such, you can find some pretty good deals. I got a bibs/coat set clearanced at Gander for about $200 a couple years back. Great suit and keeps me really dry.
