You have to be kidding me!!! Rabbits???

I loaded my two kids in the car and saw my transducer on the floor of the garage. Went to see what was going on and rabbits (turds everywhere- and wife had used the garage as a third freezer fro xmas cookies against my recommendation)had chewed through my cable and it lay on the floor. Then I looked at my Aqua Vu Scout and danged if it wasn't cut in half as well! After a minor expletive charged rant i left for the office.

Anyone know if I can splice the camera cable back together? I am not real handy with electronics but I will try anything to save $125.

The ducer will be purchased by sundown tonight because i cannot fish without it.

Man I Hate Wabbits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can fix both! I fixed a transducer cable cut in half because a buddy left it in the hole overnight and though he could auger it out the next morning.

I just soldered it together and wrapped with some electrical tape, good as new!

P.S. I know a great rabbit stew recipe if you want

What a bummer!! Splicing can be done easily enough with solder. The hard part will be getting it 100% water-proof. Try wrapping electrical tape tight around the splice, then apply a liberal amount of silicon caulking from at least an inch above to an inch below the spliced section. Let completely cure before getting wet. May - or may not - work, but is worth trying to save $125. Won't be as neat when winding the cable back up though. Good luck!

anyfish, I feel for you! One year I got a brand new 8X8 canvas house. My wife who thought it was OK to store all the things she likes to feed the birds in the corner of the garage by the door in little bags. Well when I went to setup my new house to get it ready for the season, there were holes the size of a basket ball in it! mad Also, their was about a pound of cashews her little mouse pals had stored in the bottom of it! I also had a mouse crew through the starting wire of my 2 year old 4 wheeler the same year. Well all her bird food is in cans, and I don't think there is a mouse alive after all the traps and blocks I have throwen in there! grin So it may have been mice and not rabbits? But back to your question. I have spliced a few coaxial locator wires back together but I think a vex, has a few wires which maybe harder to do. Make your wife get out her cookie money!! laugh

They can be spliced back together if you are very careful and have skylz in the soldering department.

You can purchase insulated and waterproof shrinkwrap. Slide the shrinkwrap over the cable, work your magic with the soldering iron, slide shrinkwrap over the splice, heat it up to make it shrink. Then, as stated, apply a coating of GOOD (not the cheap junk) silicon over everthing and allow to fully cure in a warm environment for at least 24 hours.

The only good rabbit is a dead and simmering rabbit.

Good luck.

Well- $85 at Thronebrothers and walla Majic I am back in business with the Vex! I told you I was not handy but I can find my wallet when in a pinch. I also got a number from the rep there who said the guy could fix the camera.

Part Two-

After skating and dance lessons tonight my wife had the wabbit cornered in the garage. I trapped the thing in a box but as PETA would have it it jumped out as was closing it up for some fun after the kids were in the house. Another almost but he got away story!!!!

As for the wife, she is the "breadwinner" around here as I am in education so she really bought the transducer as I see it and she cornered the rabbit so I could at least trap him and get him out of here. Maybe she will be an outdoorsman yet.

What a DAY! Almost made some hassenpfeffer stew though!

Did you get your camera working yet? My lab puppy chewed through my aqua-vu cable a few years back. I spliced it back together at different intervals to keep the bulge out. I then put heat shrink tubing over the whole works and put several layers of liquid electrical tape to seal it from water. Worked great.
