Dozer
The truck has 150000 on it now and I bought it with 100000 on it, my father bought it with 40000 on it. Neither of us has ever had to add an ounce of oil between changes (always ran Mobile synthetic). On the advice of my brother (who is going to school to build moters) I put Rotella T synthetic in it the last time I changed oil. I have about 4000 miles on this oil change and it was a quart low today. I am going to switch back to Mobil synthetic this oil change and hope it goes back to not using any. I have used Rotella in my ATV far about a year and a half and am wondering if that is what is causing that to use oil as well?
Macgyver55
I assume you have checked for external leaks? This time of year leaking oil cooler lines seem to get worse due to the cold.
Scott K
1 qt in 4000 miles? I wouldnt be complaining!
Jeremy airjer W
Neither would I! The BMW that I posted on went through a quart in about 3 miles!!
Dozer
No external leaks. I have been pretty spoiled with this truck, only thing Ive done is a new battery, tires and I had to replace the ignition switch. Just hoping it goes back to its old ways with the Mobile. Gus
I'm going on an assumption here that the Rotella synthetic you put in is a 5w-40? (that's all I've seen the Rotella Synthetic come in)I did run an oil change on my 03 silverado where I switched from regualr M1 5w30 to the truck and suv forumal which is 5w-40. I noticed my truck had much more engine clatter and made sounds that people told me were piston slap. However before using that weight oil I never had those sounds. I drained it out after 500 miles and went back to 5-30 and never had a problem. I didn't leave it in long enough to see any consumption but I do know that my engine just did not like the heavier weight. If you found rotella syn in a 5w30 then I guess my whole story is pointless. But just a thought for you. Ditch it and go back!FYI, my truck did really well on regular penzoil as well and much cheaper than full syn. After 125k miles I started cutting back on the pampering. NAMASafetyDirector
I would love it if that's all my Silverado took!! My 06' with 30K on it burns about 1 1/2 quarts to 3K of Mobil 1 5-30 which GM claims is "normal oil consumption". They claim if it gets to the point of burning a quart to 1K then I better bring it in! YA THINK???
Dozer
I had a 91 Chevy in high school with 250,000 hard miles on it and it only burned a quart every 2000 miles!
jwhjr
Knock on wood, my 04 still uses no oil between changes. I change it on average between 6K-8K depending on the OLM. I do make sure to check the oil once a week or so to make sure the level is good. Hopefully it keeps up
Jeremy airjer W
My Saturn gets about 800 miles to the quart!
