No i need to research and buy everything...im hoping tor a pretty nice amount of cash for my 18th b-day and hopefully i will have enough to buy nice components for he rod

Im thinking something like:

6'6" medium with a med-fast to fast tip

Nothing fancy in terms of guides

Natural cork handle with the classic style seat

I really want the wrapping to stand out from everything else out there

It would be used mostly for trolling lindy rigs for eyes but probably will see some bass and sunfish action

I Just finished a Rainshadows RX7 ISB822.5 6'10" medium power fast action that would probably fit the bill pretty darn good for you. Rainshadow blanks will probably give you the best bang for your buck compared to the other upper end rod blanks.

I know Midwest Rod and Reel carries those blanks.

There is alot of knowledge on rod building here. Tap into it for sure.

If it were me building my first rod, I would go to a place and get the one on one help/ work and learn from them. Just makes it easier, and they will show you things you wouldn't think to ask. It's a fun way to spend an eve or afternoon. That way if you think you will build more, you can always build your own shop at home.

I don't have the room to do this , so I always build mine there. It is relaxing taking an afternoon off of work and doing this.

Still working on the two new Croix's... a 7'0 HF Avid and a 7'11" big gulp LT. They are both getting micro guides and already have the rf lite seats glued on them. I also have a 6'6"mhf shikarii blank to finish for a buddy... handle and seat are glued on this one as well. I need more time in the shop, but the fish are biting too good to sit inside...

Hey Andy,

I just finished one guys ISB843 with the micros but not spiral wrapped. I've also got a couple bass sticks for a local guy, one for topwaters and crankbaits and another for jigging and maybe carolina rigging. I've still got that 3 piece blank if you're interested in it.

Still have to build myself something with those microwave guides that we got from Billy.

I want to build my brother in law a walleye jigging rod to use on Mille Lacs

What’s a decent blank that won’t break the bank? ($100 max)

I read through some old posts and was thinking maybe a Batson XSW68MX? I see there on sale for $65 online.

Thanks

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
