I was actually shooting the deer, not the blue jay. Although if I'd had the camera set in Ai servo focus mode it would have been interesting to see if it was fast enough to pick up the jay as it flew through the frame.

Good, I'm glad I am not the only one to suffer from that affliction! Zebra's are people Steve, with magnetic personalities that are attracted to camera lenses!
