river rat316
I can see myself cranking that deep on alot of clear lakes, the Alexandria chain and lake Carlos come to mind, last time I cranked there I had lead wire wrapped around the hooks on a dt16 bluegill color and 4lb diameter pp to get it down farther, was a great bait to till a hammerhandle robbed me of it, then I got lazy and didn't wanna modify another one. ikeslayer
i haven't seen the 14's anywhere but BPS and if i were BPS i wouldn't let them get to another store.
TonkaBass
Last summer I also modified a dt-16 just by sticking a suspend dot on the bill right where it is on the dt-20's. I got right around 2' deeper with ease. I wish I could say that I came up with the idea all by my lonesome, but I did it because I saw a picture of the dt-20 and just copied it. RK
Hiya - Re: the DT-14s - BP had a one year exclusive on them, according to the Rapala dude I talked to at ICAST. As far as the 20s go - I definitely will be using them in MN. A lot of the lakes I fish on - my home lake especially - have coontail in 20 feet by late August. The deep coontail fingers that stick out from a weedline are awesome that time of year. I don't know if it actually grows that deep or just falls over and creeps down the break from shallower water, but coon in 20-21 feet isn't unheard of where I fish. Be great to be able to bump bottom just outside those little points and fingers.Cheers,Rob Kimm
TonkaBass
RK- I think that coontails root system can be free floating, therefore it can be found pretty deep sometimes. I remember fishing near the pelican rapids area in the past and having good catches of nice largemouths on downdeep rattlin fat raps. These fish were on spots exactly like you described. I can't wait to try the dt20 because if it's like the dt16, which I'm sure it is, it should have a lot more thump when it's retrieved making it easier to fish through the deep weeds.
