I bought one last year and it's great - no fumes, no hassles. I'm not a hopper so I can't tell you how many holes you can drill. However it comes with jumper cables so you can run it off the truck or the QTV. Also you can change out the battery pretty easily so if need be you could have a seond one on hand. It doesn't add to my cylinder index but it also isn't a hassle to start because of a bad carb.

do any of you have a problem with yours bitting/getting stuck when you get to the bottom of the hole? Mine seems to grab. they say your not supposed to pound the blade on the ice, but it seems that is the only way i can get mine through once it bites.

Have had 8" electric for two years, sold my 8' gas lazer last week. No gas and starts all the time. No gas in my truck,no spark plugs,or recoil rope, or carb kit. Would never go back.Plus no smoke or noise in house for redrilling holes, it's fish friendly and green to'.Put a 18'ext. on last winter for late ice no problems. Drill straight and let up when breaking though and it drills great. Could see some cowboys having trouble reefing holes.let the drill do the work.

Same here, Love mine... Wouldn't have anything else for the hard house. It doesn't spin as fast as a gas auger but it cuts fine. That is noce in the perm house as chips are not all over the house. As for speed, depends on if you drill 7-8 holes or if you drill 50. For me we pull up and drill 6 in the house and 4 more maybe... If you are drilling a couple of holes I would put the electric up against most gas augers. I flip the on switch and drill, no pull starting etc. I just did 25 holes in 18" of ice this weekend on 1 battery. I have a spare battery along and the main 12V in the house woth adapter cables... haven't had to use them other than to see how they worked.

The StrikeMaster Electric is great for new ice drilling, not so much for opening an old hole...but it can do it fine just binds up a bit.

The Jiffy STX Electric is better for old holes in a permanent shack, and there you will need an external power source to run it from...any 12 V source will do with some amps behind it.

If your doing a set now and a new set in a 1/2 hour or so, you will keep up most of the day on a charge.

If you also have a 12 V source to charge on the go...no limit...drill and drill...and drill some more. Rigging a 12 V charger option on a ATV, sled, or charging from a vehicle now that the ice is deep keeps you going all day.

I have a strike master lazer. I tried it one year for re-opening holes and ended up ruining the blades.

Electric sounds nice....

Is there a go to auger (brand/typ) for re-opeining holes (gas or electric)

that will not affect blades?

New holes are not a problem for the laser. I'm on year 3 with the same set...
