Lights in the house??? Switch to LED???

Recommended Posts

This is my first perm house. We have 2 lights in there with 2 bulbs in them each. These seem to take alot of juice from the battery. We have removed 2 bulbs and it still seems to take alot. What are some good LED lights to get and do they give off enough light. They say they don't use much juice. Anybody made the switch.

Incandesent lights will use much more current then leds, like up to 10x more.

You could rewire the sockets with led bulbs, there are so many options, I have the LED lights in my portable and wouldn't use anything else, one 24 light string is enough light to see by the 48 is more then enough to tie jigs with, with both on I could almost get a tan.

You'll get more opinions then you can shake a stick at, find what works for for the price you want to pay with leds you'll have more then enough light.

I've got LED and regular lights in my house. You can find LED versions that will fit in the same socket as your normal light bulbs.

They barely draw any current, but the light is a lot different. I have fished out of my house with just the LED's but it takes some getting use to. If using LED's you may want to add another light fixture or so.

Are you running your X-mas lites on 12 volts?

No I have them plugged directly into my Duracell Batter that has a built in inverter. If you have to go 12V you could just as easily go with LED rope lights instead of christmas lights. I'm not sure if you could snip the end off of the christmas lights and wire those directly to the 12V or not??

We have a camper conversion that we wired with leds. I bought 1157 led auto bulbs and they throw off quite a bit of light. I also have single leds on a lead run down for hole lights. I have them on switches for the holes, a switch for lights above the table, and lights in the rest of the camper. I have 6 lights total not including the hole lights. I would guess I could run lights for an entire week and not have to charge my deep cycle battery.

As previously stated, leds are a different light. They are very white and take some adjusting. But not having to pull my battery every weekend is worth it.

I bought the 3' rope light, and it more like a night light. I can at least see my line though. I have them on a separate hook up to a deep cycle battery. If I see the line go done I just click on the 12v bulb to get more light then shut it off when I have my line back down. Works for me, this way I don't drain the battery with the big bulb on all the time. Diana

I have replaced all my lights in my house with the 1156 replacement bulbs for this company. The lights I purchased have 63 leds. They are a little pricey but I have been using these for over two years with no problems. Please note you might need either a 1157 or 1156 depending on the socket. All my RV lights required a 1156 bulb, and a polarity change on wiring which is common on leds.

check on e bay for US-Home-Direct leds

I have 12v Flourescent lights in my permanent. 2 fixtures, each has 2-15" flour. bulbs in it. Extremely bright, and they draw little juice. Can run the lights and a car stereo off one deep cycle battery for the whole weekend. I found them for about $30 per fixture

My vote is for the flourescent as well, you can usually order them from any place that sells campers. Ask for the twelve volt version, There designed to be run off of twelve volts. I think i paid around 30 bucks as well. I use on double fixture in a 7 x 12 and it's plenty of light. Can usually get about 10 nights of fishing off of one deep cycle with this setup.

i ended up ordering mine from arizona someplace, i couldnt find anyone around here that had them (hardware stores, menards, home creepo,) so i googled it and came up with the place from AZ. I belive the fish house supply net site sells them now.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
