whitetailfreak
which auger do you prefer? i have a 3 year old jiffy, and am looking to get a new one.. really like the jiffys but i like srtikemasters to..
Fredd
I've had both and own a lazer now. One thing that I don't like about the Strikes is their composite materials. They just look too weak/cheap to me. I don't know if I will buy another one because of this. Jiffys look much more solid to me, now.
Esox_Magnum
At 22 pounds and all steel construction look into a Nils. Bit pricey but the best there is. 2nd choice would be a Strikemaster Lazer Mag.
Fisherman24
I have a strike lite and its amazing. Starts on the first 2 pulls every time. No matter how long it has been since i have used it.It runs great and cuts fast. everything I wanted and more.
dan z
strike master ice drills are fast light and a lot easier on the ears keep you money local and buy a SM I have the 224 and have not had ne problems
whitetailfreak
the strike lite is a four stroke right?
piker007
I have a jiffy and its built rock solid but heavy as a rock too! Had to put a carb kit in it weeks after I bought it new. But since then its ran like a charm. The one I had before that one ran awesome for years with no maintnance. Also had a strikemaster for alittle while and broke the composite handle on it. Seems like I had to push down on it to get it to cut also with a newer blade. I dont think you could go wrong with either they both have flaws. And I know strikemaster has great customer service so if you buy one of theirs they should take care of you.
Jim Almquist
Quote:i have a 3 year old jiffy, and am looking to get a new oneI had my Jiffy for close to 20 years so why get a new one after 3 years ? My reason for switching was based on weight and that is why I got a Nils but I believe that both are dependable augers. The last thing I need is to have a fishing trip come to a end because of a malfunction on the part of the auger.
Brade04
Jiffy is alot heavier, but cuts faster and is easier to pull start than my Strikemaster
RylFlsh85
I have a strike-lite also and it has run like a dream since the first day out of the box, and it is so much easier on the ears, less to no smoke, and it only weighs 20lbs with the carbon fiber auger, and it cuts awesome. And yes it is a four stroke. My brother in-law has a jiffy and he has had carb problems with his since he bought it and has never really been able to figure it out, and like they said strikemaster has awesome customer service. bgreen82
first off, he said SM or Jiffy, not Nils. he prolly cant go that high. i just got a mag 2000, but have used a Jiffy. i love the lighter weight of the SM. Hopefully my SM holds up over time/customer service is awesome like i always hear.
RylFlsh85
I have heard a lot of good things about the mag 2000 , so you should have no problems.
Scouter
I've owned both, sold both, and can STRONGLY recommend the Strikemaster 2HP Lazer. I've had mine for about twenty years. There is absolutely no need to get a 3HP in any make. They are only for dudes trying to compensate... The RPM's aren't higher or torque stronger, just heavier and harder to start and carry.Nothing cuts faster than a Lazer, and you cannot get better customer service than Strikemaster either. No Brainer...
516
I have a 15 year old strikmaster power head and a newer lazer auger and i love it no problems
JimBuck
I suggest searching the forums as this topic has been discussed in numerous threads over the years. It's a Ford vs. Chevy thing...I suggest getting your hands on both and figuring out what you like best.
whitetailfreak
thanks for the help guys! i think i stated that wrong; ive had my jiffy for 3 years, im not entirely sure how old it is, it isnt to old though, the trouble im having is it bogs down really bad and is tough to start. from what ive heard it seems like strikemaster is the way to go.. benbosh
strikemaster. we have a strikemaster mag III thats almost 20 years old. used to be my grandpas then my dad got it before he passed away almost 14 years ago and it still starts on 2 pulls. only problem weve had with it is the recoil just went out but nothing major. and i just bought the mag 2000 that i "need" for when i go up to college in ely next fall and i really like it so far
snoozebutton
Everyone seems to know that Strikemaster's customer service is great. Us Jiffy owners have no idea since we've never had to call them.
Caleb S
Arguments about a Jiffy running better than a Strikemaster don't make a lot of sense. They both use a Tecumseh engine so if there are engine issues it has nothing to do with Jiffy or SM.If I had a nickel everytime someone trys to hijack an auger post with Nils... pljllo
Try cleaning the carb and toss in a new plug.Model 30 Jiffy, only a carb cleaming in 20 years.
TommyJ33
I just cringe everytime a Jiffy starts up by me. Heavy and loud.I have had a SM for 20 years. changed plugs once. No carb cleaning starts everytime. I agree 2hp is plenty if you got the Lazer blades.
CourtlandKid
i owned a strike master. but bought a jiffy last week. ill take the jiffy anyday!!! strikemasters work well too
crappiekid24
I just bought a mag 2000 last week and used it yesterday. Preformed great. I really don't think you can go wrong with either company. They both drill holes. Its just a matter of what you want in your auger.
Bigslugger
Jiffy is all I am going to say:D
eyebjim
I've had a jiffy for many years and I can't say I have ever had a problem with it. I am going to replace it with a strikemaster lazer tomorrow. The reason is light weight and cuts faster. With the jiffy you have to lean about 100 lbs of your weight on it to cut well even with a new blade. The jiffy is quite heavy too. Those are the only negatives I can think of about the jiffy. They are bulletproof. I had that thing banged around, dropped, fell off the 4 wheeler doing about 40 and it did cartwheels and still works great. They both work good.
