jiffy or strikemaster?

I've had both and own a lazer now. One thing that I don't like about the Strikes is their composite materials. They just look too weak/cheap to me. I don't know if I will buy another one because of this. Jiffys look much more solid to me, now.

I have a jiffy and its built rock solid but heavy as a rock too! Had to put a carb kit in it weeks after I bought it new. But since then its ran like a charm. The one I had before that one ran awesome for years with no maintnance. Also had a strikemaster for alittle while and broke the composite handle on it. Seems like I had to push down on it to get it to cut also with a newer blade. I dont think you could go wrong with either they both have flaws. And I know strikemaster has great customer service so if you buy one of theirs they should take care of you.

i have a 3 year old jiffy, and am looking to get a new one

I had my Jiffy for close to 20 years so why get a new one after 3 years ? My reason for switching was based on weight and that is why I got a Nils but I believe that both are dependable augers. The last thing I need is to have a fishing trip come to a end because of a malfunction on the part of the auger.

I have a strike-lite also and it has run like a dream since the first day out of the box, and it is so much easier on the ears, less to no smoke, and it only weighs 20lbs with the carbon fiber auger, and it cuts awesome. And yes it is a four stroke.

My brother in-law has a jiffy and he has had carb problems with his since he bought it and has never really been able to figure it out, and like they said strikemaster has awesome customer service.

first off, he said SM or Jiffy, not Nils. he prolly cant go that high. i just got a mag 2000, but have used a Jiffy. i love the lighter weight of the SM. Hopefully my SM holds up over time/customer service is awesome like i always hear.

I've owned both, sold both, and can STRONGLY recommend the Strikemaster 2HP Lazer. I've had mine for about twenty years.

There is absolutely no need to get a 3HP in any make. They are only for dudes trying to compensate... The RPM's aren't higher or torque stronger, just heavier and harder to start and carry.

Nothing cuts faster than a Lazer, and you cannot get better customer service than Strikemaster either.

No Brainer...

thanks for the help guys! i think i stated that wrong; ive had my jiffy for 3 years, im not entirely sure how old it is, it isnt to old though, the trouble im having is it bogs down really bad and is tough to start. from what ive heard it seems like strikemaster is the way to go..

Arguments about a Jiffy running better than a Strikemaster don't make a lot of sense. They both use a Tecumseh engine so if there are engine issues it has nothing to do with Jiffy or SM.

If I had a nickel everytime someone trys to hijack an auger post with Nils...

I've had a jiffy for many years and I can't say I have ever had a problem with it. I am going to replace it with a strikemaster lazer tomorrow. The reason is light weight and cuts faster. With the jiffy you have to lean about 100 lbs of your weight on it to cut well even with a new blade. The jiffy is quite heavy too. Those are the only negatives I can think of about the jiffy. They are bulletproof. I had that thing banged around, dropped, fell off the 4 wheeler doing about 40 and it did cartwheels and still works great. They both work good.
