Anyways i was trying to figure out all day how, and if i can still do the spring turkey hunt this year. I missed the lotto, and i figured i could still get a surplus tag right?? well i called the area headquarters (bemidji) they didnt know a dang thing, no clue whatsoever. all i wanted to know was hey, can one still hunt turkey, and if so what do i need. nothing. so i got transfered a few no seven times before somone had somewhat of an answer, and then he directed me to another person. i called barnsville dnr office to where no one would answer...so i waited an hour...no answer, finally got done with class...they are close...

Does anyone on HERE know if i can still get a license if i didnt apply for the lotto permits??? and if so, what all do i need for licences?? small game, turkey tag, state turkey stamp?? HELP PLEASE

u sure can. you can buy an archery linc. over the counter for the last two weeks of the seasonS. I beleive that it will start the 10th of may (also fishing opener).or you can check to see if there are ant surplus permits availible in ur area. i Got mine that way i also didn't go for the lotto and i'm still going. good luck to ya. by the way ur zone has to have atleast 50 permits to buy a archery tag.

Actually I believe that changed this spring and those who didn't apply could still get a surplus tag if there are any left. This came right from the MN DNR licensing page.

 Quote:
SURPLUS LICENSES

4,565 surplus spring wild turkey hunt licenses are available. Check the list of available surplus licenses .

Surplus (or undersubscribed) turkey hunt licenses are available to hunters who applied in the 2008 turkey lottery drawing but were unsuccessful. Surplus licenses will go on sale beginning March 17, 2008, at 5:00 p.m.

You can purchase surplus licenses on a first-come, first-served basis at any ELS license agent or online at http://www.wildlifelicense.com/mn/.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. on March 24, 2008, all remaining licenses will be made available to anyone, whether or not you applied in the lottery.

I ahve absolutely no idea if there are any surplus permits remaining anywhere in the state though.

Probably none left. An archery tag can be bought over the counter in any zone that has at least 50 tags available for each time period. The season starts May 16.

Yup thanks for everything guys, but i decided to call the DNR to get an answer (not that i dont trust you guys) but one can still hunt if you dont apply, all you need is to check the surplus tag page, if there is one left you can buy it and the turkey stamp and your golden. thanks for the help everyone, but the only weekend that matched up with the surplus tags, happends to be my sisters graduation from HS so i cant make it...sure wish i could have, would have been my first year trying it out, i think i will apply for the fall hunt though.
