2007 vs 2008 Ipod touch

Pikemaster101

Question

What is the difference between the two besides the price??? Also does anyone have one? What do you think of it and how good is the wireless internet?

I was thinking about buying one for in the boat this summer i have been looking at the 8g ones and seen that you can buy the ones that have been sent in and fixed for around 230 for the 07 and 250 for the 08. Also what is the soft where that they talk about for a extra $20 is it worth it and do you need it?

I wasn't aware that there are '07 and '08 models, that usually isn't Apple's style. They normally make their units in different generations, but I wasn't aware there are even two generations for the Ipod Touch. The 8gb model you are referring to is discontinued, they are moving up to the 30gb for the Touch instead. With that said, I don't know if I'd spend my money right now on the 8gb, instead I'd wait for the larger model.

Anyway, the wireless internet is pretty good and is a nice feature when away from your regular computer. In your boat, I doubt you'd be able to pick up internet, and I really doubt the touch screen would be necessary in the boat. I'd recommend going with the Nano or regular Ipod for boat stuff.

It's a strong likely hood that Apple will be introducing new iPhones and iPod Touches this summer - probably late June. I think I would wait - it should be worth it.

But if you want just music - shoot, you could load enough on to a nano easily to play music all day in the boat...

The nice features of the Touch are sort of lost in a boat. But if this is for "every day carry" as well, then that is different.

I think the price on the 30G touch is pretty high, approaching 500 dollars. There is also a 16G touch.

Will you be just using the buds, or running it through speakers?

I to agree that the strong points of the touch are no good in a boat, you would probably be better off using a nano instead. Plus they are cheaper and there are many on the used market so you can have one just for the boat.

The $20 goes to the january software apps upgrade which you could get on the 07 if you wanted. It just adds stock, maps, notes, and email all of which need wifi access.

Web browsing is OK at best because of the small screen.

Internet access is done via a wifi router in your home or office(with a password), the Iphone can use the cell service to get web service as well.

The main attraction that I have with mine is the wifi Itunes store, which means computer-less downloading of songs. I can go to McD's or a coffee shop and buy music faster than my dial-up will let me do.

Another thing that it can do is view pictures, I take pdf lakemaps and convert them to jpg picture files and load them on the ipod.

I don't really see that much bad things with the Ipod Touch in the boat or out of it. From what i have read and seems to be a lot easier to move around one (as in going from one song to the other or Etc.) I would like to buy one so i did some looking into them.

The only thing that makes me weird in buying one is will the screen scratch??

My screens held up pretty good. I wouldn't take one out in a boat though- too expensive of a toy to both get wet or have fall out of your pocket and fall into the water. I have the upgraded version, btw. One bad thing about net surfing is the print is pretty small.

It does NOT have internet everywhere. And it is NOT free unless you are in a hotspot.

The only exception is in a few cities across the country that have city wide WIFI service but I don't think that it is free either.

I have a touch and I can tell you from experience.

I think fishingfrenzy has the touch confused with the Iphone.

I disagree, if you are somewhere where you pick up wireless internet, you get it free. Airport, coffee shop, ANYWHERE you can pick up a wifi signal, you're good to go.

I'll agree on the coffee shop and don't know about the airport but your probably right if its a large one. But how often does a person go there.

I can find wifi signal all over the place but it doesn't mean that I can use it, most of it is private.

At home, work, or most other places it's going to cost you if its available at all.

For me hotspots can be hard to find. In the metro it would probably be easy.

I wouldn't hate to buy one of these expensive ipods and find that it doesn't work out well my area.

So I'll leave it at this, before you buy if it's mainly based on using it for the internet, stop in at a apple store if possible and see if the small screen is OK with yourself and do some searching on the internet for free wifi hotspots.

You're right, I wasn't very clear on this before. As long as the WIFI you pick up isn't password protected, you'll be fine. Many people get wireless internet, but don't protect it. If you can find wireless like that around you, you'll be able to get on the internet. However, if they password protect it, you're out of luck. Thanks for clearing that up pulsar.
