I think this is exactly why people are against it.

I know I was for a while. I didn't see the point of this sport, even after sitting in a darkhouse for a while. But in time, I did realize "what it's all about" and now accept it for what it is.

Did you see the picture that they had this week in there photos of the past. Those are the ones that stick in peoples heads when they think of spearing. What a rush it would be to see that many big fish in one day!! I can remember when i was a kid my dad took three fish home one day that were like 18 15 12 and the fish were taller then me. Makes me think twice before i poke the big ones.

I was at the local sporting goods store this weekend and I saw a copy of the ON sitting on the counter, so I picked it up to read what everyone was talking about. I must have been reading the newer edition since there were several letters to the editor refuting the "bad" letter to the editor.

I also have to admit after reading the well written responses, I have to change my previous stance and admit that it may be better to respond with a properly written, well worded letter, than to not respond at all. It was nice to see multiple people with very well written responses to this letter to the editor. I am glad to see they didn’t “make it personal” or throw out counter attacks.

See you can teach an old dog new tricks.

there was some good information that was wrote back, and alot of people i believe are going to be writing about this for a long time. I think everyone has there own thoughts about it, and thats what its all about in our sport of spearing.

I'm not very fond of the letters that are wrote merely with the intention of casting doubt on Muskies, Pike or any of the angling groups that we have in MN, in my opinion these letters are wrote not for the benefit of any part of the resource or our activities, these letters are to drive a wedge between sportsmen and incite hateful discourse that benefits a very, very few individuals that have more money than brains.

They play all of us like a musical instruments when they want to see the monkeys jump, we jump at their whim, the time has come for all of us to understand each other and work together on real issues like the poisoning of our lakes to control a weed for a 2-3 week period, a time to work together so all of us are assured that we have a future and our resources are protected, these accusations and cloudy messages are designed to cast derision on real progress.

I stopped getting ON over a year ago due to repeated Anti Muskie rhetoric and I sure don't care for it being used as a venue for more hate and discontent, I know there are some Muskie guys that hate spear fishermen and some spear fishermen that hate Muskie fishermen, for a few that may never change, but those of us that have some sense and a value of the common ground we all stand on we see the need for all of us to work together for the fish.

There is allot that can be manipulated, shape shifted and distorted against and for all of us, it's high time understand each other.

Sportsman, by and large, are very easy to play off of each other because they are very passionate about the sports they participate in. We all have attitudes twards other sporting groups. ie- traditional archers v. compound shooters, bowfisherman v. carp fisherman, inline muzzle v. cap and ball. The list goes on and on.

If we didn't love the sport and we weren't passionate about it, no one would do it.
