Frozen Four

Yep, congrats to making it to the frozen four, if your happy with just making it there, well then congradulations your team made it. All in all both teams are at home, The sioux didn't accomplish anymore than gophers did. Unless you consider 3 straight choke jobs in the frozen four an accomplishment?

And just like that, the Sioux fans are silent. Imagine that!

This Sioux fan wasn't silent last night, even after my team went right down the tubes. Hurt last night, hurts today. Life will go on. At least we didn't lose to the Golden Tokers. Come to think of it, I didn't see the Tokers anywhere in that Frozen Four. What's up with that? confused.gif

Fire the guy who took them to the Frozen Four the last four years straight, which are also his first four years as UND coach?

Dude, you're either tokin' or jokin'. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Besides, I doubt it was his fault the Sioux defense didn't show up to perform. Players gotta play, after all.

I would dare say it was more than just the defense that didn't show up to play, more like 96.3% of the team...it would be 100% but it's hard to tell about the backup goalie as I didn't see warmups? If you are talking about defensive system not executing, I'm not sure they had a system for any zone last night! This defeat should have been expected by susie fans however...not too many teams that get outplayed for 2 straight games in the national tournament and end up playing in the semis, they should feel very fortunate! I really think Princeton would have given BC a better game!

Their defense let the Sioux down immediately and almost continuously. It was not a defensive system fault, but a series of individual mistakes. In other words, the defensive players played poorly, and once BC scored several goals the Sioux did not have the character to regain the initiative.

Not much different than a field of battle. Lots of similarities between war and hockey. Not that the Golden Tokers know much about either. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Didn't know your were a Blais fan, Jamison. I miss him, too. He is a class guy and was a class Sioux coach, and the first one I knew pretty well. A worthy inheritor of the rise to power Gasparini started after those horrible years in the 70s under Rube Bjorkman.

Hakstol's got the makings. He'll do fine. Four Frozen Fours in his first four years is pretty darn good. Even a Toker, if he's thinking logically, has to acknowledge that. whistle.gifwhistle.gif

Not exactly Princeton would have been in the final 16 regardless of winning the ECAC tourney.

Sorry I was so quiet, I just got home from Denver. The Sioux played very poor hockey much like most of the last 10 games they played. Showing for the first ten minutes then most of the third will not win any team many games against good teams.

Unfortunately, ESPN had a real effect on the all games as well. The TV timeouts were too frequent and very long. Most of them lasted longer than most shifts and effectively allowed the benches to be shortened.

And I can guarantee all of you would rather have your team go the Frozen Four than sit around wondering who is going to leave early.

I just got back from traveling from work as well, and am not going to make any excuses for the way the Sioux played. It was to say the least uninspiring. Hakstol should have put Walski in for JPL after the 3rd goal to try and shake things up. JPL was not on top of his game and senior or not he needed a reality check. Since you can't have a bruiser start a fight to ignite your team in college like you can in the NHL the only thing I can think of would have been a goalie change.

Anyone else bothered by the week of in between the regionals and the Frozen Four, again not making excuses but just bothers me.

And lastly as a response to the Frozen Four choke quote above here are Frozen Four Appearances, National Championships and percentage of times won for

Michigan: 23 appearances, 9 titles, .391

North Dakota: 18 appearances, 7 titles, .388

Boston College: 21 appearances, 3 titles, .142

Minnesota: 19 appearances, 5 titles, .263

IS IT OCTOBER YET? ;\)

I didn't realize it was gym class where you get points for attendance. \:\)

They've still got the bragging rights in the WCHA, till another team brings it back. If an ECAC or CHA team wins it next year, I might just have to head to the bunker. It was bad enough having a Hockey East and CCHA team get it the last two years.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
