Newman fails post race inspection

I don't think it affects the scores, it only takes away from his points to get into the chase. There was a similar "incident" earlier in the year when Edwards was docked 100 points in the standings. I think Newman lost 25 on this one.

Usually the only time it will affect the scores is if the infraction is severe enough to remove the driver of his finishing position. This has happened at least one time in the two previous years and its a huge pain!

Come on, we've been though this before. If it doesn't relate to the COT body or it's aerodynamic pieces, the penalty is less severe. The car fit the templates and the body was per NASCAR specs. It was a chassis issue not a body issue, and the body is where NASCAR drops the 100pt hammer. It slips my mind right now, but there was a similar situation before this one and NASCAR has been consistent in this delineation.

Did'nt gordini's shock mount bolts "malfunction" last year ?

There was no fine, no point loss, no vacation for the crew chief.

Just a big ol hug from NASCAR.

I think that set the precedent for this kind of "garbage".

2007 Speedweeks when they discovered that Jeff Gordon's shock mounts were improperly installed after qualifying for the Daytona 500. After deeming the move was not deliberate, the No. 24 had to start his qualifying race from the back of the field instead of face a fine or a loss of points.

This same infraction happened last year when Edwards car was too low. Even though the car being lower did not help downforce at all, they still penalized him because it was not within the parameters.

I also wondered the same thing? Isn't A rule infraction A "RULE INFRACTION"? So was the car that was to high in the right rear less guilty than the car "Carl Edwards car" with the missing oil cap? Maybe Roger Penske's name has something to do with this?
