tigerbalm2424
So I feel like i have beating this debate to death in my head and I apologize if i've done it on the forum. Im making the plunge today and picking up 2 reels but cant decide whether they will be curados, citicas or one of each. I havent found Shimanos HSOforum to be very helpful either IMO. Here is my interpretation of their features, please add if I am missing anything:Citica-high efficiency gearing (on 200 only)-low mass drilled spool- 1/4 turn access(200's only), Turn key access (100DSV only)- Aluminum Frame-Power Paddles ( 200DPV/DSV only)Curado-Super Free (SF)-Variable Brake System-Super Stopper-Assist Stopper-Septon Handle Grips-Dartanium Drag-Clicking drag adjustment-Aluminum Frame-Magnumlite Spool with High Capacity (excludes 100DSV)-High Efficiency Gearing (excludes 100's)- Turn key access (100's only)-Aluminum Handle/Sideplate (excludes 100s)So running through these:-Citica does not have super stopper feature-Citica does not have Super Free-Neither 100 size models have High Efficiency Gearing-Only Curado has variable braking (which sounds very helpful)-Dont really understand the access differences (1/4 turn vs. turn key)???? Or what they are used for...???-Only one Citica 100 series to choose from and it does not offer low mass drilled spoolOne reel will be on a shimano crucial CRC70ML and the other on a shimano crucial CRC70MH. One for the light stuff and one for the heavy! Also, note that size is of concern as I have smaller hands. Any comments are surely welcome.... Deitz Dittrich
The web page is misleading... The Citica does have Super Free and it also has Super Stopper and it also have Variable Breaking. Access is to the Variable Breaking, and the 1/4 turn is easier than the turn key.. but only by a few seconds... Neither of them in the 100 size has a wiffle spool or HEG gears... only in the 200 size.. other than that the Curado has 1 more ball bearing, and I think they are higher quality earings, but I could be wrong on that... You could try e-mailing cust service at Shimano.. But from what I know, the bearing is the only major difference in the 2 reels.
tigerbalm2424
Thanks Deitz. Do you know where the extra bearing is physically located in the curado?

Deitz Dittrich
Bearings... rats... stupid fingers!I believe its on the drive shaft... the Curado is also a 7.0-1 Gear ratio while the Citica is athe 6.2-1 Which might make the difference to you. st.crioxfishin
Hey Deitz, any specific reason why they don't make the citicas in the 100 model with a "normal" spool (non-superfree spool)? Also, is there any benefit or downfall to the superfree spools, besides the fact that you can put more line on the reel?
slipperybob
The Curado get's jipped, it's short one bearing inside. The Citica has the bearing in one of the drive shaft (or something inside) while the Curado gets a PLASTIC Bushing. The difference in the bearing count is that The Curado has two in the handles and the Citica has none in the handles.Get a Curado order the Citica bearing or Get a Citica and order the Curado handle. Im not dietz, and maybe Im confused by what your saying but the citica 100 still has the superfree feature, it doesnt refer to the spool. Probably confusion from the old curados in which the SF version had wiffle spools.A wiffled spool weighs less/and holds less line (again less weight) this means it takes less power to get the spool spinning resulting in further casts and better performance with lighter lures.I wonder why they dont make a D version, too. I wanted to get a Citica 100 but didnt want the DSV reel.
Deitz Dittrich
Well said FUTF.. its still super free, and on the smaller reel its not a wiffle spool as the smaller reel needs more line compasity... hence a deeper spool.

Bassman55
I just ordered a curado for 170 bucks and after the rebate it will be 120. It sounds as if you havent received your rebate back yet.
Bassman55
Other guys have from that site and they said the rebate would work, but yeah I was wondering about that too.
tigerbalm2424
Well, I personally havent tried yet, and maybe they are fraudulently sending full price recents to their customers with the reels, but shimano informed me that they wouldnt honor the rebates unless the receipt shows full price.
