Travel Covers

I have a Clam Fishtrap Scout now, don't pull it with a 4 wheeler or snowmobile, my question is- are the travel covers worth the money if you don't use a vehicle to pull them out? Mines usually in the back of my van, but I suppose early ice I will be pulling it out by hand. Any insights great guys, don't wanna blow $40 on something I don't need

My travel cover is basically just to cover it up when storing it in the offseason. I don't pull it out by sled or wheeler more than a couple times a season, and it's on a small lake so it's not pulled far.

I like the cover wheather pulling by hand or by wheeler or just having the scout in the back of the truck it is much less likely that someone will walk by and grab something out of it. You can fit a 5 gal bucket a buddy heater, vex, case of beer and much more under the cover and I then just put the auger on top of the cover and pull away. I was leary of the purchase at first too but it was well worth it to me.

Same here. I keep mine in the back of my truck all winter, and since the truck has an access cover, I seldom put the cover on except when storing. It is nice to have IMO.

It is nice to keep everything covered, even when in the back of a truck, also keeps your gear out of site for the opportunistic (sp?) people that like to see and grab things. I keep mine on my Voyeaguer all the time except when I am fishing.

I added some darker tint to the windows in my topper to keep the opportunistic ones from beaing able to easily see inside. Granted, if someone really wants to see what's in there they will, but it keeps the "honest" ones out anyway.

I too put mine in the back of the truck under the cover and don't really have a need for the travel cover, but since I bought it used from a guy that pulled it behind an ATV it came with a travel cover. One night while pulling it by hand across a lake the wind kept getting ahold of the fabric and "opening" the house up as I walked across the lake. I stopped, but the cover on and was on my way. Had the wind been coming from another direction I would have been fine. Does one night make it worth the money??? I was glad I had it that night, have not needed it since.

I had one made for my Frabil XL Twinn that rides in the back of my pickup and gets pulled by hand. Cost 25 bucks. Look in the yellow pages for fabrics and also alterations. From there you should find someone to put one together for you.
