Bear Applications Due!

Bear applications are now available and are due by May 2nd. I see they cut down the number of permits this year to about 11,800. I see there is a new thing this year if you don't plan to hunt this year you can apply for area 99 and get a preference point for next year.

What area are you applying for and what town are you hunting by?

Mine is Area 45 and Milaca.

My partner and I will be applying in zone 12 again...noticed they dropped the permits in 12 by about 10 percent....we hunt from Hayes Lake to Fourtown area...been lucky for a number of years now....we've been drawn in zone 12 for 10 straight years!!

zone 31 up near finland. last year was the first year i applied and got drawn. it was a blast, cant wait for the season.

Hey Biff, where abouts will you be hunting in Milaca. I hunted near there last year and had plenty of pics with my camera but not when i was on stand. I am thinking of giving it another shot this year and if still nothing...2009 will be with an outfitter!

Promised my wife 6-7 years ago that I would take a few years off from bear hunting since it was taking a lot of family time with all the baiting and such. Now I have a 9 year old son and a 6 year old daughter wantin to "go bear huntin" with me.

Did I take enough time off? I suppose thats a question for my wife. To apply or not apply - that is the question.

To satisfy my wife, I think I will be switching every other year from Turkey to Bear. Apply for first season on turkey and if I do not get drawn go bear hunting then vice versa. Hard to pattern me then

I've hunted bear about 6 times, never saw on. they came in at night. Area 51 near mcgrath, 31? near 2 harbors. This year area51 near emily

Kinda wished I would have seen this earlier. I want to give this a try in 1-5 years...wouldn't hurt to throw a few bucks towards preference points until I'm ready to hunt.
