Bassboy1645
I dont know how to post photos so If this breaks any rules could someone else please post it?? I can email it to you if needed.... A friend of mine sent me these pics asking for my advice. Walleye? Perch? or somethign else?? Apperently they were caught by a guy in michigan. Thyre 20 some inches and have dorsal fins like a walleye and body size of a walleye. The lower fins are red and the body shape and coloration is that of a perch. The eyes are more perch lookign too. Now ive seen some strange lookign walleye but what is this?? I've never heard of walleye and perch hybridizing though I guess it wouldnt seem too impossible! Any ideas??? UncleKes
Bass: Have your friend send the photos to the Michigan State DNR for identification. He should tell them where he caught it (What lake of rIver) The date he caught it, and any other pertinent details.
Fish'n guy
here it is thats really something else! No white tips, yellow belly fins, small eyes, and the head shape of a perch. Well good luck on the search man!!
Black_Bay
If they aren't walleye, they are zander. Perch don't get 28 inches long.
lotsofish
It's a photochop.
toughguy
Did they find those in the pond outside of Mr. Burns' nuclear plant? If it could just have had 3 eyes.
Fish'n guy
Walleye perch hybrid is what I would say. It reall has perchlike characteristics but has the length of a walleye
Craig Plummer
Photoshopped picture...Plus I don't think that measuring tape is correct either, those "Inches" look more like Half-Inches
tunrevir
Well, i would have to say that if those are truly"perch" they aren't of this time zone, planet,................ If they are truly perch then they are the new world record. Walleye hybrid/perch...doubt it, photo shop probably(I say this for a couple reasons, If it is true and these are really true fish nobody in the right frame of mind would brag about it and post it on the internet. I am going to balk on this one untill someone can actually show me one of these fish in person, on the lake Anyone willing to give up this special spot for these nuclear fish or not? Okay........nuff said, they don't exist. Anyone want to respond? 20" perch/hybreds, doesn't happen and when it does I want these in all of the lakes in MN! Good photoshop crops though! Don't mean to offend. Tunrevir~

Team Otter
Can male 'eyes fertilize a female perch's eggs?

Even though their spawns could overlap a little, I think for the most part perch would start spawning a couple weeks after the walleyes. Perch spawn over veggitation and walleyes spawn over gravel/rocks, so the chance they might mix is basically 0. I don't know if it's ever been tried in a labratory environment or not...Like I said before, this is a 100% fake; and in reality it's not that great. Even zooming in at 2x you can see on the bottom fish a square area cut in where the head was added and didn't blend right. The side fins on both fish are a little transparent. The shadows are all off. Nobody noticed that they are missing the front top fin? If you zoom in a little more, you can see where it was cut out a little sloppy. Bassboy1645
hmmm.....I thought it was cool none the less....I could buy the photo shop theory....but I honestly dont know anybody who can photoshop that good...the dorsal fins are there it appears like just folded back....Maybe I could buy perch with a photo shop ruler....or something else who knows?? so if walleye and perch are different genus? what about the hybrid muskies and pike which create tiger muskies if im not mistaken? Interesting discussion anyway!
The Grebe
If that ruler were correct, I believe that top fish would be over 32 inches long! That would make for a pretty hefty walleye, let alone a walleye/perch crossComparitively speaking, going by individual body structure of each species, a cross like that would have to be about 12 inches deep and according to that tape, they aren't even half of that. Taking the measurments into account, they would have to look more like a pike then they do perch...32" long x 5 3/4" deep.I'd definately have to go with the "OR SOMETHING ELSE", pretty creative.I forgot to mention...I'd eat em in a heart beat though! Perch/walleye cross? Yum!
DTro
While it appears that this could be a good blend job, don’t be fast to scream photoshop. I’ve had photos of myself and/or others that I know are 100% real with no modifications whatsoever and people will swear up and down that it’s “photoshopped”. It’s the easy way out of an explanation. Having said that, since nobody has ever seen anything like this, my thought is that there’s a good chance something fishy is going on here. How's that for flip floppin
SlamNFish
I would say if this was real the guy who caught them will be famous soon for discovering a new species. I wonder if he's getting them mounted? What would you call it a Percheye? , Zanderch , ?
PDOGG
I have to say thanks for posting this picture. We have a guy at work who goes to Lake of the Woods every winter and comes back claiming he caught 15-20 inch perch way out in the middle of the lake. Of course he never has any pictures to back this up and we all know he's full of you no what. Anyways he's fishing up there right now so I printed of your picture and hung it up at work telling everyone he just emailed it to me. It has been a good time laughing at everyones jaw drop when they see it. I really can't wait for the guy himself to get back and see it.

Interesting discussion anyway! Muskie and northern pike are the same genus Esox Muskies are Esox masquinongy and northers are Esox lucius. Interspecific hybrids, like tiger muskies or hybrid sunfish, are relatively common. Intergeneric hybrids like tiger trout, brown trout x brook trout, are much more rare. Shack
Weren’t they serving these fish in some Metro area fine dinner restaurants a year or so ago . I have been looking and comparing the grass blades size to the fish and then the tape measure. My eyes are blurry now?? Good pics though.
slipperybob
The Zander can cross breed with walleyes. I think it doesn't make a hardier fish though. Who knows what genetic farming can do?...I think the photo might be from Michigan, Europe. Lol's
