explorer
Pretty sure these are California Quail. Had to crop a little bit as these guys are hard to get close to.
Steve Foss
Nice shot, Charlie. Thanks for sharing the warmth. These are Gambel's quail. Very close to California quail, but the unscaled buff breast and dark belly patch of these birds tip the scales toward Gambel's. My range maps also indicate California quail are not found in Arizona but Gambel's are.
mcary
Explorer, Nice shot. I've never seen a Gambel's Quail before. It is a tad evil of you to post nice sunny warm photos for those of us in the frigid north . We'll be thawed out soon and posting warm weather shots of our own. Nice work! Keep 'em coming. Rainman
That is a cool picture. I heard they are very hard to get within range of.
finnbay
Nice shot! Been a long time since I've seen any quail. The last time I ran into any was pheasant hunting in Nebraska, and all they did was make a fool of me! Thanks for reminding me!
explorer
Here is another photo, this one not as good as the first. A little closer though.

JayinMN
I really enjoy your pictures, besides being great quality. They add something different to the board, when all I have seen lately is snow....
DMN
Nice quail, I also like the other colors in the shot.I don't think I will see any of these in my yard anytime soon.DMN
explorer
Thanks everybody. It looks like as of today I will get to enjoy this nice weather for an extra month. Apparently the cold weather in Fargo earlier this month pushed my start date back a month.
