I've seen a couple this year while fishing weed edges for walleye, so yeah, there are still some in there, just not what it used to be.

Yellow is sort of like Rice Lake. The current stocking program is only about 1/3 the total number of stocked fish as what it used to be. So it should be no surprise that the population is down. Fishable certainly, but I wouldn't call it an action water anymore.

Anyone going out tomorrow? I haven't been up for a few weeks and really haven't done that well this year so I might try to brave the winds tomorrow morning for a few hours.

Rob

You gotta be nuts fighting this wind today. grin I'll be out Sat & Sun weather permitting.

Good luck!

Just so no one is confused, the about quote was about the muskie population, not the walleye. Though the walleye stocking has been non-existant, populations due to natural reproduction have remained very strong.

Sorry, think I finally gave it up about 10:30 Sunday. Fishing was good right up till the fog lifted. I stayed mainly on the NE corner and the big main point. We ended up with one 18 incher Sunday morning and one 18 incher Sunday evening.

Ok, someone else in a white boat then. One small walleye, a few small perch, and one very nice bluegill on sunday for me... just slip bobber fishing with leeches for a coupe hours mid afternoon. Not too much effort, just out enjoying the nice weather and relaxing. Saturday was a little too windy, but Sunday was a very nice day to be on the lake!

I fished Yellow on Sunday from 4AM - 10AM. I should have been fishing deeper! In the dark, I stayed in 9 - 13 feet of water with zero hits. About 7AM, I got out into 20 feet of water when I got turned around in the fog and I got a 20" walleye. When I stayed deeper, I marked lots of bait and fish but did not get anymore walleyes. Lots of nice sized gills on the crawler harness. I talked to a musky fisherman who got a 27" walleye on a musky bait.

Thanks to whoever raked the weeds away from the ramp on Saturday. I did not have a rake or feel like spending a long time getting weeds off the trailer on Saturday so I went to Lipsett and only got bass.

The fish we got were all in 10-14 FOW. We also got one nice walleye while turned around in the fog. I would have loved to fish that area a bit more, but have NO idea where we were. We've fished out there in the fog before but don't ever remember it being so thick for so long. Never had a bite after the fog lifted.

The fog was so thick at 4AM, all I could see was the green and red of the running lights reflecting off the fog. I could only idle out because I was afraid of hitting someone. If I had not had the GPS, I would have had to start fishing right next to the dock. I had switched to the depth finder only when I got turned around and into deep water to get my one fish. I quit right when the fog lifted and it sounds like I missed nothing. My in-laws have a place on Upper Clam but I wish they had a place on Yellow. It is a much better fishing lake.

The Webster Lions Club had their big muskie tourney last weekend. Very similar outcome as last year. 45 boats, 7 muskies caught, 4 over 40", biggest 42". One was right at 39".

Biggest pike was 39".

I was up on Yellow Friday the 12th before the snow storm. Fishing was slow, weather wasn't bad, very little wind so it made for a nice day. Ended up catching and releasing a nice northern and this monster bass that made the trip worth it.

Had a couple bites right after ripping through weeds but it was like they hit it once and dropped it. Didn't even try to get out Saturday with all the snow.

There are some huge smallies in that lake, you got yourself one right there. Nice.

I'm gonna try to get up there on the ice a little more this year than I've been able to in the past.

I see you're from Oakdale (me too) what are you doing up in that part of the world?

Heard about the lake from my Uncle when he lived in the area. I'm from Green Bay originally, now living in Oakdale. My Dad has been making a trip from GB to Yellow with me the past few years. Staying at the old motel at the casino in Danbury is cheap until you dump your money back into the machines wink. It has been hit or miss - the wind has blown us off the lake a couple times so we may look for a different lake farther east next year.

Some friends of mine went out on Yellow Friday afternoon before the storm, 2 were fishing on Jeffries bay and caught a couple nice eyes and the other was on the west side by the narrows and he caught 1 that was 14.5 inches. Last year the perch were biting like crazy by Ike's but nothing doing as of today that I have heard. Will keep you guys informed.

We must have gotten 10-12 inches of snow and with the wind and being it was light snow it blew all over the place so it was hard to get an accurate depth. In front of Ike's there was 8-9 inches of ice in the deep water 20'+. Glad the snow was light and not the heavy stuff so it might not hurt the ice so much.

Welcome to the forum lance. I think if you read through this whole thread you'll find lot's of good info here for both hard and open water seasons.

I haven't been up there YET this season, but with the poor ice conditions in the southern half of the state, I'm planning on it soon. I hear the ice is good and vehicles are driving all over the lake. The only real area to stay away from is the narrows going into Little Yellow as that stays open all winter.

Most perch are caught at the bottom edges of the steep drop-offs during the day. A quick glance at any map will show you that that covers most of the lake. Doubt one shoreline is much better than another. You'll sort through lots of little ones to keep a few decent ones.

Most walleye are caught on the upper edges of these drop-offs early and late in the day. Most locals use shinners on tip-ups to catch them. Limit is three and they must be 15" or better keep.

Good luck and be sure to let us know how you do.
