fishinchicks
I knew it was pretty cold today, but who wouldv'e thought that the starting row for the 500 would be Johnson and Waltrip? Two Chevrolet's and three Toyota's make up the top 5. LMITOUT
Only one Toyota in the top 2 right now. Everyone past the first two has to try again on Thursday.
fishinchicks
Right. However, for today, they weren't too bad for speed. I was a little surprised at how poorly Dodge seems to be running right now. The top Dodge was 11th, with the next one coming in at 23rd.
NAPAFISH
Consider that the Toyota racecar is built in the U.S.
LMITOUT
That means nothing. It's still a foreign-based company, regardless if they have plants in the US.

fishinchicks
So with your line of thinking, even though Chrysler and GM outsource a lot of their manufacturing to other countries, they are still ok because their headquarters are in the US? Interesting.Toyota took over the number two spot from Ford in pickup sales last year. There are quite a few Toyota drivers on FM, which I believe is a pretty good sample of the population. Something to ponder.

LMITOUT
call me old fashioned but I like my NASCAR American....exactly how it began. I don't know how they can call the Daytona 500 the "Great American Race" anymore when they allow a foreign car......
Jeremy airjer W
HMMMM! Guys running from the law with cars full of moonshine? Why do they call it the WORLD SERIES and only have American teams? I think the bigger question is how will the fans react when the Toyotas start winning races. Everything is just peachy as long as the big three are winning the races and championships. If Toyota stays with it there will be wins and championships. Will the fans still be as dedicated and supportive of the sport when that happens?
L_Cappo
im sure the fans will be fine with it.besides the fans dont care what make of car there driver is running.i know i wouldnt care if dale jr wanted to drive a ford or a yota.

That is a crock. An awful lot of fans are concerned with the brand of car, and the drivers also. I read the other day that Smoke was contemplating leaving Gibbs when his contract was up because he prefers the bowtie. I think it would be a cold day down yon when Jr would pedal a rice burner down the track.

Jeremy airjer W
You know what I mean! Besides Canada is part of "North" America so technically wouldn't they be an "American" Team, especially since Toronto is in the "american" League? TNFL
Quote:Why do they call it the WORLD SERIES and only have American teams? HMMMMM ...... What percentage of MLB players are American Born. I would bet it's less than half.
HOF#13
NAPA...all that means is that with Mickey up front to start the 500, he will now end up taking out 3/4 of the field when he wrecks instead just a few of the last place cars! Just kidding. Team Toyota has looked pretty good so far at Daytona.
Jeremy airjer W
Toyota looked good at several races last year. I thought for sure Toyota would have at least one win. They had a few good qualifying runs and a few good finishes but at the end of the day they had either crashed, broken down, or couldn't keep up. The broken down part you would expect, the crashing part I'm not so sure what the deal was, and the keeping up was just a plain disappointment for us Toyota fans!It will be interesting to see what Joe Gibbs can do with them. For sure he can offer experience and maybe some stability. I think that was Toyotas biggest problem, they had the money, they had the brains, they had the equipment but they didn't have anybody that could bring it all together.I also wonder if Stewart is in the senior slide mode. I can't imagine how hard it is for him to say the Toyota Camry ran good all day. Do you think he is just going to make laps, DNF or do you think he will push for wins/championship? harvey lee
Tony will push to win. He is a hardcore racer and I dont believe he can just lay back and not try to win every lap or race.

muc33
how many of the "rookies" to nascar will make the field? with the mix up in cars this year (really gibbs switching and toyota finally figuring things out) who knows yet what to think. I am excited, can't wait for tomorrow and the twins!!!!
