Lowrance H20

I am looking at buying the Lowrance H20 and am trying to decide between the color or black and white. I have read posts saying it is sometimes difficult seeing the color screen in the daylight. I was wondering if I bought the black and white how do the Navionics and Lakemaster chips work in black and white or would I be better with the color with the chips? Thanks for your suggestions.

when its sunny you can switch it to night vision.thats seems to work pretty good.but the nagain i have no prblem with mine in the sun.

I love the color unit. In the daylight you just turn the light on. If you are not using the cord, use the energizer lithium batteries, they last a long time.

I went with the black and white and am not disappointed a bit. I think it all in what you expect of your gps. I use mine for fishing as well as geocaching. I use the lakemaster chip, no problems at all whether it's broad daylight or pitch dark.

From my experience, the Navionics chip is pretty much two tone, so the black and white will work pretty much the same as a color GPS. The lakemaster has more color, so it would be tougher to see all the details with a black and white unit. LB

Look at your budget and make your decision. Black and white will give you better battery life and color will give you better resolution. If money is an issue you should do the black and white then buy either a navonics, lake master chip or if you mainly use it for driving mapcreate. The extra hundred bucks on a limited budget will take a modest GPS and make it so much better. To me the navonics chip was more important then the color and I have not regretted it since I bought it.

I posted the same thing a couple of weeks ago and talked to a couple of people who had used both and went with the black and white. I bought it with the lake master chip and I'm very impressed with it.

If you are going to get the black and white get the lakemaster chip like Otter said. The bad thing with the Navionics chips is you can’t zoom in as close as you can with LM. I have used both the color and b/w units and that zoom seems to make a big different. I like the color more and wouldn’t buy anything anymore that isn’t color, with the lakemaster chip it gives you different line colors for different depths on some lakes. Either way if you are buying a H20 you are doing the right thing!!!!!

last I looked lakemaster had a pretty decent deal if you bought both the chip and the unit directly from them.

I have the H20C and I have posted this same response every time that someone asks about which way to go. The black and white will do everything that the color unit will do. If you plan on using the ac adapter for most of your use, the battery issue shouldn't be a problem. The color units are harder on batteries due to the fact that you need to have the back light on more often in daytime use. Either way you go, you will be happy with the H20, and paired with the lakemaster chip you open all sorts of doors that you didn't know were locked.

If you plan on using it in the open water season, I have found that when I am fishing the same lake for multiple days, I can save my daily trails in a different color. This makes it very easy to determine what day I went where. I absolutely love the thing.

I keep one mounted in my work truck for finding job sites and then take it out for fishing, it's like the best of both worlds.
