Northern Lures

Every day there is a new bait out there that you just have to get. But the many older ones work just as good. I am curious to every ones opinion on their best northern lures/baits. My personel favorite must have would be the Windels Pike Harasser(Nickel/black), the x-rap(any color), and a larger sized zara spook

my biggest pike was on a #12 Husky j e r k (another post says #9 but that's wrong) but by far my best producer is a 3/4 .oz slop master spinnerbait, stripped and retied with a generous amount white angora rabbit fur. and a dark brown head. sometimes i don't know why i take it off.

I have to agree with many of the above lures!

My "Fav 5"...yep, just like the cellular carrier commercial!

White Spinnerbait

Firetiger Fat Rap

Johnson Silver Minnow (used one almost all straight week in Canada)

Sub-surface like a Bassereno, they all have teeth marks!

Topwater like a Heddon Torpedo

Krocodile spoon, I had one in my box last year on our Canada trip and I outfished the other seven guys in our group with it. Caught a 41" 43" and 12 others between 37 and 39 plus two 25" walleye. Needless to say I won't be the only one with one next year. Honorable mention is the half-wave spoon.

I also like a 1/2 ounce white spinnerbait. Suicks are a great big pike bait. I have also caught some big pike burning fat raps on the weedline. A small bait but pike like them.

For me, I love Suicks, Rapala 18s, Rattle Traps, big firetiger spinnerbaits, and other fast moving slash baits.

Anyone remember the old Berkley Power Rattles? They were a rattle trap type lure with the back half being powerbait plastic. I have three of them with a few tails left over, one is chartruese with a green tail, one is and emarald shiner type color with the same green tail, and one is chrome blue with a blue tail. That is a never fails pike bait right there. Every one of them has a ton of teeth marks in them and the tails are pretty chewed up too. That is a super fast moving bait and they just can't resist them.

i miss all those old lures. like the power rattle, super shadrap in tennesee shad, the bagley shad R in balsa, but most of all i miss the original storm thin fins, in short and tall both. man those thing caught fish. i'd pat 20 bucks apiece for black and silver or purple silver. probly the same for a tennesee. thanks for the memmories polar.

If I could only take 1 lure on a pike fishing expedition there is no contest in my opinion. It would be a Daredevle 1 oz. 5 of Diamonds. It has never let me down, and you can't tear one up.

I love to go old school for pike. My old school "go to's" are

1. The big kahuna, aka Creek Chub Darter- has to be wood, like the jointed ones but 3 treble straight is great too.

2. The Doctor spoon in silver, gold or 5 of diamonds. Has to be the heavy guage- no knock offs.

3. The venerable live sucker.

4. Mepps-black bucktail

New favorites

1. Mag shad rap-golden shiner color

2. Tiger tubes-crayfish color

3. Ratle trap -fire tigre

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
