Whats your plans for 2008!!

Well for me personally I'm not much of a bass fisherman, but our cabin is on a lake that has shifted from a great northern and walleye lake to a great bass lake (this year's creel survey confirmed what I've known for a few years: northerns are now extremely difficult to catch and walleye are in fact impossible to catch). Every year though I catch 2-3 bass over 5lbs out of there, usually by accident. This year I plan on actually targeting a little more when I can't run off to another lake to chase skis. Only problem is since the eradication of canadian waterweed from the lake it has become devoid of all submergent vegetation and it never has had any good dropoffs or changes in bottom composition (100% muck). The key is to find a consistent way to locate and catch them in deeper water. I know outside of spawning season they don't hang out around the pads or docks (I see a lot of fisherman try this without any success, outside of an 8"er here and there).

I got a little too caught up in muskie fishing in '07, I realized I missed out on some fun bass fishing right here in town. Picked up a new 6'8" med xfast Avid and I'm upgrading a couple older green Curado reels to the Shimano Citicas, best bang for the buck out there in reels in my opinion.

So, my goal is to target the bass a bit more. My family cabin is on some good smallieand large water, so I want to hit the bass more.

I have a big supply of my favorite jig 'n' pig combo (3/16 Stanley jigs and Zoom tails) I have to burn up!

Above all, goal is to have fun!

Chris

fish daily on open water

train community kids to fish

put on a few tournaments

take some handicap persons ,disabled ,and children out that possibly wont get to fish

Enjoy my family and freind time on the water

most important my dad and his freinds are not getting out much so plan on at least getting them out once a week or so even if it is just off my dock.it is just to much work for them to take care of boats launching reloadings etc

get healthy

Ah yes, the wintertime river smallies \:\) Already done that a couple times too \:\)

I'm just hoping to learn more lakes in 2008, although I'm sure that won't happen all that much with guiding on Tonka and the Chisago Chain taking up a lot of my time. I would also like to get out fishing with a few more people and find more time to get my dad and brother in the boat. I would also like to work on expanding my techniques and patterns. A lot to learn out there for the bass world, but it's all fun \:\)

Get a trolling motor so I can actually get my boat out and hit some metro lakes. All I've used it for is trolling for walleye's up north. Luckily I've been able to get out with friends the past few years.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
